Advanced Payroll Compliance Analyst (Remote, United States)

Remote Payroll Compliance Analyst responsible for payroll compliance, tax accuracy, audits, controls, and regulatory reporting across Independence Pet Group’s North American pet health brands.

Description

  • Ensure compliance with United States and Canadian payroll regulations
  • Research and communicate changes to payroll legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain compliance calendars, filing schedules, and regulatory obligations
  • Work with Legal, Finance, Human Resources, and external providers to implement compliance requirements
  • Keep payroll policies, procedures, and controls aligned with applicable laws
  • Conduct recurring payroll compliance reviews and operational audits
  • Detect control gaps and compliance risks through monitoring and testing
  • Perform root cause analysis and plan corrective actions for payroll exceptions
  • Support internal and external audits, SOX activities, and regulatory examinations
  • Maintain payroll control documentation, audit evidence, and remediation records
  • Track compliance issues through resolution and report status to leadership
  • Validate employee tax configurations and jurisdiction assignments
  • Review payroll tax filings and remittances for accuracy and completeness
  • Coordinate responses to tax notices and government inquiries
  • Work with payroll tax vendors to resolve filing discrepancies
  • Support year-end reporting, including W-2, T4, RL-1, state, and provincial filings
  • Audit payroll transactions and resolve compliance issues affecting employee pay
  • Review earnings, deductions, tax calculations, benefit deductions, PTO payouts, final pay, and garnishments
  • Support payroll integrations for acquisitions and new entities
  • Coordinate payroll registrations and agency account setup
  • Assess compliance impacts of business transitions and organizational changes
  • Assist with vendor transitions, entity consolidations, and process standardization
  • Maintain payroll SOPs, compliance records, and governance materials
  • Recommend control improvements that reduce operational risk
  • Support payroll technology implementations and automation initiatives
  • Build and maintain compliance dashboards and operational metrics
  • Contribute to strategic payroll transformation projects
  • Analyze payroll data for trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Prepare executive summaries and compliance reports for leadership
  • Monitor and report compliance, audit readiness, controls, tax, operations, remediation, and service-delivery KPIs

Requirements

  • Relevant experience, skills, or certifications in payroll compliance, audit, tax, controls, and regulatory governance
  • Knowledge of United States and Canadian payroll regulations
  • Ability to research, interpret, and communicate payroll legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Experience managing payroll compliance calendars, filing schedules, and regulatory obligations
  • Experience conducting payroll compliance reviews and operational audits
  • Ability to identify control gaps and compliance risks through monitoring and testing
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action planning for payroll exceptions
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits, SOX activities, and regulatory examinations
  • Knowledge of payroll tax filings, remittances, tax notices, and government inquiries
  • Experience with W-2, T4, RL-1, state, and provincial reporting
  • Knowledge of employee tax setup, jurisdiction assignments, earnings, deductions, tax calculations, benefit deductions, PTO payouts, final pay, and garnishments
