Remote Manager, Language Access and Interpreter Services

Leads medical interpretation and translation services, compliance, budgeting, quality improvement, and staff management for Advocate Health. This full-time remote role supports language access across a nonprofit integrated U.S. healthcare system.

Description

  • Leads the development and rollout of system-wide translation and interpretation programs
  • Ensures language services meet regulatory, accreditation, compliance, and organizational policy requirements
  • Contributes to system-wide strategic planning for language access services
  • Directs quality monitoring and improvement efforts for translation and interpretation
  • Partners with leaders, employees, and medical staff to support limited-English-proficient and deaf or hard-of-hearing populations
  • Creates initiatives to improve, promote, and communicate Translation and Interpretation Services
  • Prepares capital and operating budgets in collaboration with the director
  • Tracks spending, evaluates budget variances, and implements corrective action
  • Manages employee training, development, evaluations, and personnel actions
  • Provides guidance and operational support to subordinate staff
  • Participates in safety programs and completes required safety competencies
  • Coaches employees, conducts performance reviews, and promotes staff morale

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership experience is required
  • Typically requires five years of medical-environment experience providing verbal and written interpretation and translation, prioritizing staff work, and advising employees on complex cases
  • At least one year of supervisory experience in a medical environment
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge in Health Care Administration or Nursing
  • Professional command of bilingual medical terminology covering anatomy and physiology, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and health education
  • Knowledge of medical interpreting ethics outlined by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare
  • Ability to oversee interpreters delivering sensitive messages, including death and dying
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to use video interpreting methods
  • Willingness to wear protective clothing when required
  • Ability to travel and work in conditions involving road and weather hazards
