Field Project Engineer – Distributed Energy Systems (US Remote)

Deploy distributed-generation systems across customer sites for AiGent. Own projects from site survey through go-live, coordinating contractors, utilities, testing, and onsite technical support.

Description

  • Manage deployments from kickoff through go-live, covering site surveys, project scoping, contractor scheduling, installation, testing, and handoff.
  • Coordinate multiple projects at once, keeping customers, contractors, utilities, and AiGent teams aligned on milestones and next actions.
  • Oversee licensed contractors and verify completed work against installation standards before approval.
  • Confirm each site is ready for launch by checking hardware connections, platform data flow, and successful testing.
  • Coordinate utility meter and data access while developing relationships with important utility contacts.
  • Maintain site performance after launch by responding to hardware and connectivity alerts, arranging repairs, and tracking issues through resolution.
  • Diagnose and fix onsite hardware, wiring, and connectivity problems.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for customers and support sales with site scoping and realistic project timelines.
  • Refine project kickoff checklists, installation standards, and alert-response procedures.
  • Share field-based insights and recurring issues with the engineering team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple field projects simultaneously while coordinating customers, subcontractors, and internal teams to meet deadlines.
  • Typically 3–6 years of experience in generator service, project engineering, commissioning, controls, or electrical contracting.
  • Strong, proactive communication skills for customer interactions in person and in writing.
  • Proven ability to move deliverables to completion independently.
  • Residence in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel approximately one week per month, increasing to nearly two weeks during each market’s peak season.
  • Comfort performing hands-on technical work onsite safely and within training.
  • Working knowledge of commercial or industrial standby generators and automatic transfer switches is preferred.
  • Ability to scope sites, interpret one-line and control-wiring diagrams, and identify contractor-work issues is preferred.
  • Experience in demand response, virtual power plants, or energy services is preferred.
  • Experience with utility metering, meter data, or utility program personnel is preferred.
  • Building-controls or telemetry experience, including BAS, Modbus, or cellular gateways, is preferred.
  • Existing relationships with regional electrical contractors or generator service providers are preferred.
  • A degree is welcome but not required.
