Backend Engineer, Data Acquisition (Anti-Scam) at Gogolook — Hybrid Taiwan
Build scalable crawling infrastructure and fraud-signal pipelines for Gogolook’s Watchmen brand-protection platform. Replace costly external crawler services with resilient, in-house systems.
Description
- Build and operate production-grade web crawling infrastructure across social platforms and public websites
- Develop resilient collection systems with headless browsers, IP rotation, scheduling, rate limiting, retries, observability, and automated recovery
- Own extraction and normalization pipelines that convert crawled content into structured fraud signals
- Lead the transition from external crawler services to cost-efficient internal solutions
- Improve infrastructure cost efficiency, performance, and architecture
- Work with backend, data, and product teams to connect crawler outputs to Watchmen and broader fraud-intelligence systems
- Raise technical quality and reduce accumulated technical debt
- Coordinate with Legal and Security on compliance, privacy, retention, and auditability
- Extend crawler coverage to additional social platforms and fraud indicators
- Create reusable crawling infrastructure for B2B products and AI/ML detection initiatives
Requirements
- Proven experience building and operating crawlers in production at scale
- Experience designing resilient collection systems with Playwright, Puppeteer, or comparable headless-browser tools
- Experience with large-scale URL scheduling and structured data extraction pipelines
- Strong understanding of HTTP and TLS protocol internals
- Ability to assess bot-detection signals and develop robust collection systems
- Proficiency in Python and JavaScript
- Practical AWS infrastructure experience with services such as EC2, ECS, Lambda, and S3
- Three to seven years of software engineering experience in data acquisition or backend systems
- Hands-on experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and comfort working in a hybrid setting
- Working proficiency in written English for technical documentation
