Summer AI/ML Engineer Intern – Autonomous Vehicle Simulation

Join GM’s AI/ML internship team to build simulation solutions for autonomous vehicle testing. Apply machine learning to evaluate performance, identify critical scenarios, and validate GM’s self-driving stack.

Description

  • Use AI and machine learning to scale testing, classify autonomy performance, and identify critical scenarios, incorporating human review when useful
  • Work with engineering teams to integrate machine learning models into simulation tests and evaluation workflows
  • Learn the codebase and technical domain quickly while completing assigned work efficiently
  • Build, test, and deploy production-ready software across simulation infrastructure components
  • Frame technical problems and develop robust solutions that account for tradeoffs and edge cases
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and participate in design and code reviews
  • Communicate clearly to support smooth integration across systems and teams
  • Apply completed work to the ongoing iteration and validation of GM’s self-driving stack

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, engineering, or a related STEM discipline
  • Must have at least one academic quarter or semester remaining after the internship ends
  • Understanding of contemporary machine learning methods
  • Coursework, research, or project experience in AI or machine learning
  • Strong Python programming ability
  • Availability to work full time, 40 hours per week
  • A master’s degree in a related STEM field is preferred
  • Exposure to deep learning architectures such as Transformers, convolutional neural networks, or diffusion models is preferred
  • Practical experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or Keras is preferred
  • Robotics or computer vision experience through projects or research is preferred
  • Familiarity with multimodal learning or sensor data is preferred
  • Interest in technical publications, open-source work, or patents is preferred
  • C++ or Java knowledge is a plus
  • Plans to return to a degree program after the internship are preferred
