Managing Director, Head of Technology Process Re-Engineering

State Street seeks a Managing Director to lead technology process mapping and re-engineering across global technology services. The role advances governance, control alignment, operational transparency, and measurable process improvement.

Description

  • Create and lead a GTS capability focused on technology process mapping, re-engineering, and operational transparency
  • Set the standards, methods, taxonomy, tools, and adoption model for documenting critical technology processes
  • Maintain end-to-end views of priority GTS processes, linking activities, roles, systems, handoffs, controls, pain points, and performance measures
  • Recruit and manage a small team of process mapping specialists across two global locations
  • Analyze processes systematically to uncover duplication, fragmentation, manual workarounds, unclear ownership, control gaps, and simplification opportunities
  • Work with process owners and transformation teams to design future-state processes, define roles and decision rights, and build implementation roadmaps
  • Set measurable re-engineering objectives covering complexity reduction, cycle-time improvement, control alignment, accountability, and management reporting
  • Maintain governance practices that keep process maps current, validated, assigned to owners, and consistent with standards and control expectations
  • Produce executive reporting on process coverage, mapping maturity, risks, improvement opportunities, unresolved decisions, and progress
  • Engage senior stakeholders across technology, risk, operations, and delivery organizations
  • Lead evidence-based discussions, resolve ownership questions, challenge established practices, and promote adoption of redesigned processes
  • Report to the GTS Head of Process Improvement and Risk Remediation

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of experience leading technology process transformation, re-engineering, business architecture, operational excellence, technology transformation, or risk-aligned remediation in large organizations
  • Senior leadership experience, ideally in financial services, technology, operations, risk management, or another highly regulated setting
  • Advanced knowledge of BPMN, SIPOC, value stream mapping, Lean, Six Sigma, business capability mapping, operating model design, or related methods
  • Experience developing process standards, governance frameworks, repositories, reusable templates, maturity assessments, and executive reporting for technology improvement programs
  • Demonstrated success working with globally distributed technology teams and influencing senior stakeholders across GTS, risk, operations, and business-aligned technology groups
  • Ability to establish and expand process mapping, process architecture, and re-engineering capabilities within a large matrixed technology organization
  • Experience diagnosing process inefficiencies and turning findings into redesign options, implementation plans, and measurable results
  • Ability to engage senior leaders, challenge constructively, build agreement, and drive decisions across organizational boundaries
  • Strong knowledge of process design, ownership, controls, metrics, evidence, operational resilience, and control environments
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and facilitation abilities
  • Ability to turn complex processes into clear narratives, visual maps, decision materials, and executive recommendations
  • Ability to assess process data, control evidence, performance measures, organizational handoffs, and operating model constraints
  • Ability to lead change and embed standards, accountability, and improved working practices across global technology teams
