Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment — Remote (United States)

Advise Kraken’s global workforce on labor, employment, executive compensation, privacy, investigations, and M&A matters. Help build scalable legal practices for Payward’s worldwide financial infrastructure business.

Description

  • Serve as a senior member of the Labor and Employment legal team
  • Partner with the Global Head of Labor & Employment and broader legal team on daily matters
  • Build Labor and Employment practices for a rapidly expanding global workforce
  • Advise on worker classification, employee separations, executive compensation agreements, compensation plans, and wage-and-hour issues
  • Provide guidance on trade secrets and restrictive covenants
  • Support labor and employment due diligence for M&A transactions
  • Guide post-closing workforce integration, including alignment of employment terms, policies, compensation, and benefits programs
  • Advise on global expansion, EOR and direct-employment models, workforce transitions, global mobility, contingent workers, and classification risks
  • Draft policies and procedures and create and deliver training for managers and employees
  • Advise on employee and candidate data privacy matters
  • Support global workplace investigations and employee relations matters
  • Direct outside counsel on pre-litigation, arbitration, local-law matters, and employment disputes
  • Develop AI-enabled legal workflows and establish practical controls
  • Track and advise on global Labor and Employment developments, including trends affecting the cryptocurrency industry
  • Handle other assigned duties and responsibilities

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of legal experience advising on US and international employment, labor, and executive compensation matters
  • Experience in both in-house and law-firm settings, including high-growth companies and mature large enterprises
  • Broad international Labor and Employment experience, including legal drafting
  • Ability to work hours that overlap with PX team members and colleagues in Asia-Pacific
  • Experience conducting acquisition due diligence and integrating workforces after closing
  • Experience with compensation plans and employee- and candidate-related data privacy matters
  • Active license to practice law in at least one US state, or eligibility to practice as registered in-house counsel
  • Practical day-to-day proficiency with generative AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT
  • Sound judgment in validating AI outputs and safeguarding confidentiality, privilege, and personal data
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial approach with a focus on creating opportunities
  • Interest in the cryptocurrency industry preferred
  • Experience in fintech, crypto, or another regulated financial services industry preferred
  • Experience with employment markets in Asia and/or Latin America preferred
