Deputy Director of Family Support Programs

Lead Best Buddies International’s family support programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role oversees volunteers, parent mentoring, community partnerships, fundraising, and program outcomes.

Description

  • Oversee daily operations of the Family Support program across an assigned area.
  • Travel within the area to recruit mentors and mentees and promote the program.
  • Run Eunie’s Buddies, including volunteer recruitment and training, program planning, and outcomes assessment.
  • Work with colleagues and the supervisor to meet Eunie’s Buddies and Siblings program goals.
  • Find and engage prospective parent mentors, mentees, and other participants.
  • Manage parent mentor and mentee pairings and assess how well matches are working.
  • Lead local training sessions.
  • Respond to database inquiries and identify prospective participants.
  • Prepare volunteers for Best Buddies and their assigned roles.
  • Build connections with local organizations, hospitals, medical practices, and other resources.
  • Arrange at least three to four local community socials each year.
  • Recruit, manage, and support community volunteers.
  • Work with the supervisor on annual evaluations, public relations, program goals, and community relations.
  • Raise awareness through speaking engagements, marketing, tabling events, and media initiatives.
  • Help secure mission advancement opportunities and prepare grant applications.
  • Provide statistical information to support requests for additional resources.
  • Coordinate fundraising with the State Director and form a local Eunie’s Buddies Friendship Walk team.
  • Work with community leaders to expand parent engagement.
  • Run targeted marketing campaigns to recruit mentees.
  • Assess and track program outcomes regularly.
  • Coordinate with other departments as needed.
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports, quarterly goals, and other required paperwork.
  • Take on special projects and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience developing programs and leading or developing volunteers.
  • Nonprofit experience is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to Best Buddies’ mission.
  • Excellent persuasive writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence and inspire others and communicate Best Buddies’ mission, goals, and work with conviction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, digital meeting platforms, and learning and development facilitation software.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to parenting and challenges faced by families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving.
  • Willingness to manage multiple tasks.
  • Self-starter with drive for results and the ability to assess personal performance.
  • Ability to lead people and programs toward defined goals.
  • Dependable and able to set a strong example.
  • Ability to adjust leadership approach to the situation and guide volunteers toward expectations.
  • Comfort working with corporate and community leaders, parents, medical professionals, and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Access to a vehicle or other transportation and applicable insurance.
  • Able to travel, use a personal cell phone, and work evenings and weekends as needed.
