Head of AI Operations — Portugal (Remote)
Lead Coverflex’s company-wide AI operations strategy, automation, governance, and investment measurement. Build reusable AI workflows across departments while guiding a small central team.

- Lead a small central AI Operations team while contributing directly to delivery
- Set priorities for AI initiatives across departments outside the AI Operations reporting line
- Embed with teams for days or weeks to build agents, skills, automations, and workflows before transferring ownership
- Maintain the company-wide view of AI expenditure, returns, safety, and reusable solutions
- Create the first complete overview of AI spending, production systems, dependencies, and returns
- Launch operational AI initiatives in at least three departments that can manage them independently
- Improve the discoverability and reuse of existing AI work
- Establish AI governance with Engineering, Security, and Legal, covering guardrails, reviews, and permitted team activities
- Track workflow gains, AI-spend returns, reuse, ownership coverage, and response times to departmental requests
- Work closely with AI Product, Engineering, DevX, Legal, Security, and department leaders
- Present evidence-based reporting on AI investment and impact to management
Talablar
- Demonstrated success leading AI or automation adoption across an entire company, not just a single team
- Hands-on ability to build with AI tools, including agents, skills, prompts, and orchestration platforms
- Experience managing a budget or investment case and substantiating it with evidence for executives
- Track record of setting and enforcing priorities across departments outside your direct reporting line
- Knowledge of AI governance and risk management, including data handling, access controls, vendor assessment, and audit trails
- Ability to create baselines and evaluate results using measurable evidence
- Experience working in rapidly scaling companies and remote-first teams with significant autonomy
- English proficiency for the primary working language
- Portuguese, Spanish, or Italian language skills are advantageous
- Experience managing a small senior team spanning multiple disciplines is advantageous
- Background in solutions engineering, forward-deployed engineering, internal tooling, revenue or business operations, or consulting is advantageous
- Familiarity with the EU AI Act in employment and financial-services settings is advantageous
- Experience in fintech or another regulated industry is advantageous
