Senior Technical Artist - Unreal Engine (Irvine, CA)

LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS is seeking a Senior Technical Artist to build Unreal Engine visuals, tools, and workflows for Tencent’s game development studio. The role focuses on asset optimization, runtime performance, memory usage, and mentoring technical artists.

Description

  • Lead the art team’s technical solutions and implementation
  • Establish quality standards and mentor junior Technical Artists
  • Coordinate the technical implementation and management of internal and outsourced assets across teams
  • Advance high-end visuals that support and strengthen game design
  • Prototype and create graphics features requiring advanced technical expertise
  • Develop innovative content-creation methods and workflows that improve efficiency and quality
  • Partner with Art, Engineering, and Production to address dependencies and requirements
  • Help the Art team troubleshoot tools and game-related issues
  • Optimize runtime performance and memory consumption

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of content-creation pipelines spanning modeling, UV mapping, texturing, shading, lighting, effects, rigging, and animation
  • Demonstrated experience with modern workflows for creating game content
  • Proven experience working as a Technical Artist on shipped AAA games
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently
  • Robust digital-art background covering modeling, shading, lighting, and VFX
  • Deep knowledge of Unreal Engine technologies, including materials and Blueprints
  • Strong command of linear algebra and calculus
  • Understanding of real-time physically based materials and rendering (PBR)
  • Experience with Substance products and/or Houdini
  • Knowledge of lower-level programming languages such as C++
  • Understanding of shading languages including HLSL or GLSL
  • Extensive scripting experience for DCC applications using Python or C#
