Senior Risk Manager, Risk and Insurance (Ohio Remote)

Lead healthcare risk management, claims, and loss prevention strategy for Bon Secours in this senior role. Oversee event investigations, regulatory responses, mitigation programs, and support for adverse-event matters.

Description

  • Direct loss prevention strategy and risk mitigation efforts across assigned facilities and service lines
  • Partner with senior leaders on insurance, claims, adverse events, loss prevention, and operational risk exposures
  • Work with Human Resources, Legal, Quality, Compliance, and Patient Safety teams to identify and reduce priority risks
  • Provide cross-coverage for the Risk Director and colleagues during absences or temporary assignments
  • Act as a risk management subject matter expert across system initiatives, committees, networks, task forces, and projects
  • Lead initial event responses, evaluate facts and risks, and establish appropriate next steps
  • Serve as a principal contact for complex or high-risk concerns involving patients, visitors, or workforce members
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations, consolidate findings, assess risks, and escalate material issues
  • Advise grievance committees on risk and review communications involving potential liability exposure
  • Lead Apology & Disclosure strategy and deliver Just-In-Time training
  • Identify cases for Early Liability Review and support resolution planning and outcomes
  • Coordinate with claims management on potentially compensable events and work with outside counsel
  • Administer claims involving professional licensure and board investigations
  • Advise on regulatory surveys and investigations involving CMS, The Joint Commission, and Departments of Health
  • Evaluate claims, incident data, and post-loss results to uncover trends, root causes, and emerging risks
  • Track risk mitigation plans, ensuring follow-up actions and escalation when needed
  • Develop and execute focused loss prevention and risk reduction programs
  • Help shape risk management strategy by converting data, claim patterns, and regulatory developments into practical initiatives
  • Provide focused education on risk management, claims, and insurance principles

Requirements

  • Must live and work within the Continental United States because of company VPN access
  • Earn the CPHRM certification within one year of hire
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, legal studies, or a related field
  • At least five years of experience in healthcare risk management, quality, or safety
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk management principles
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and shift priorities quickly
  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare operations and medicine
  • Collaborative and responsive when working with associates at all levels
  • Healthcare, law, or insurance licensure preferred
  • Master’s degree in healthcare, business, legal studies, insurance, or a related field preferred
  • Adaptable, flexible, and attentive to detail
  • Thorough knowledge of claims and litigation
  • Basic understanding of insurance as it applies to healthcare operations and employees
