Reliability Engineering Support Intern – Detroit, MI (Hybrid)

Investigate truck product failures, analyze reliability data, and help coordinate corrective and field actions. Support quality, safety, troubleshooting, and customer uptime initiatives at Daimler Truck North America.

Description

  • Investigate emerging and systemic product issues, identify root causes, and help implement corrective actions.
  • Work with Quality, Engineering, Supplier Management, Compliance, Field Staff, and Aftersales teams to resolve complex product concerns.
  • Review product performance data and support troubleshooting activities.
  • Launch and coordinate field actions.
  • Develop materials for quality and safety review committees.
  • Conduct failure analysis and troubleshooting to determine why products fail.
  • Assess and prioritize emerging product issues.
  • Apply statistical tools to evaluate issue data, scope, and severity.
  • Contribute to cross-functional investigations, meetings, and improvement initiatives.
  • Support Service Solutions, technical bulletins, campaigns, recalls, and customer advisory letters.
  • Notify dealer technicians of urgent field actions through DTNA Solutions.
  • Submit literature requests to TechComm for bulletin and technical manual updates.
  • Evaluate financial benefits when determining whether campaigns or bulletins are appropriate.
  • Provide technical assistance to Field Staff, Field Sales Engineering, Daimler Truck Technical Support, TechMod, and other stakeholders.
  • Arrange travel with field service personnel, customers, and internal partners to troubleshoot product problems.
  • Help maintain an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or higher, or graduated within one year of the position start date.
  • Studying engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Able to independently analyze complex problems, develop solutions, and support production or field resolution with limited guidance.
  • Customer-focused and motivated to develop practical customer solutions.
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity and continual change.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Well-organized with effective planning skills.
  • Creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Able to build effective working relationships and contribute in a team setting.
  • Working knowledge of internal combustion engine operation, including mechanical, electronic, and software controls.
  • Knowledge of or experience with automotive or trucking applications.
  • Authorized to work permanently in the United States at the time of application; visa sponsorship and existing visa holders are not accepted.
  • Willing to complete a criminal background check if selected as a final candidate.
  • May be required to complete a pre-employment drug screen if selected as a final candidate.
