Physical Sciences Computational Research Specialist

Design terminal-based AI benchmarking tasks grounded in physics and chemistry workflows for Gramian Consulting. Build reproducible simulations, scientific software environments, and automated validation systems.

Description

  • Design realistic, multi-step terminal tasks modeled on physical-science workflows
  • Build self-contained computational environments with pinned dependencies and scientific software
  • Prepare datasets, molecular structures, simulation settings, experimental measurements, and model configurations
  • Develop expert reference implementations in Python, Bash, C/C++, Julia, or specialized scientific tools
  • Create automated checks for numerical precision, physical validity, convergence, and output format
  • Develop tasks covering simulation, numerical modeling, data fitting, optimization, spectroscopy, molecular analysis, and scientific visualization
  • Set suitable numerical tolerances, units, boundary conditions, and scientifically expected behavior
  • Confirm workflows are reproducible and run successfully without downloading dependencies at runtime
  • Troubleshoot dependency conflicts, numerical precision issues, solver instability, performance bottlenecks, and file-format problems
  • Record scientific assumptions, expected results, and computational constraints for reviewer use

Requirements

  • Advanced technical training through a Ph.D., postdoctoral work, or equivalent experience in physics, chemistry, materials science, astronomy, computational science, or a related discipline
  • Proficiency with Python, C/C++, Julia, Bash, or another language used for scientific computing
  • Practical experience working in Linux and terminal-oriented environments
  • Applied knowledge of numerical methods, scientific simulation, mathematical modeling, or quantitative data analysis
  • Ability to independently build and verify reproducible computational workflows for scientific use
  • Thorough understanding of measurement units, numerical precision, physical constraints, and reproducibility principles
  • Experience creating, troubleshooting, or validating scientific models and computational workflows
