Claims Examiner, Liability (Hybrid)

Sedgwick is seeking a Claims Examiner to manage complex liability claims, including investigations, litigation, settlements, and exposure assessment. The role also supports team coordination and may include limited supervisory responsibilities.

Description

  • Evaluate and process complex or technically challenging general liability claims
  • Investigate claims and collect information to assess exposure
  • Use action plans to guide claims toward timely and appropriate resolution
  • Oversee litigation and pursue cost-effective claims outcomes
  • Coordinate vendor referrals for further investigation or litigation management
  • Lead team meetings and assign responsibility for follow-up actions
  • Compile compliance and claims-processing information for team discussions
  • Support interviews for adjuster and clerical positions and provide feedback to the hiring manager
  • Assist the team lead with monthly workload reviews, trend identification, and recommended adjustments
  • May supervise up to three direct reports
  • Administer personnel policies and follow staffing and training requirements
  • Interview and hire employees, establish performance development plans, and conduct performance discussions
  • Provide guidance, leadership, support, and motivation to encourage strong performance

Requirements

  • At least five years of claims management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Professional certification relevant to the line of business preferred
  • Required licensing
  • Knowledge of jurisdictions nationwide
  • Ability to assess complex or technically challenging general liability claims
  • Experience handling high-exposure liability claims involving litigation and rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of subrogation and settlement negotiation
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Clear, conceptual thinking skills
  • Strong judgment, troubleshooting, problem-solving, analytical, and discretionary abilities
  • Ability to manage work-related stress
  • Computer keyboarding ability
  • Hearing, vision, and speaking ability
