3D Technical Artist at SAS — North Carolina Hybrid

Build optimized Unreal Engine environments, characters, and visual effects for SAS digital twin applications. Convert CAD drawings into real-time simulation assets that support analytics and machine learning.

Description

  • Develop and adapt Unreal Engine model assets for simulation environments, including basic and custom collision volumes.
  • Optimize lighting, post-processing, and camera effects to balance visual quality with real-time performance.
  • Create, customize, and rig MetaHuman characters for real-time applications in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Produce facial and body animation with Control Rig, Sequencer, and motion-capture data.
  • Use Unreal Editor and Unreal Insights to identify, communicate, and resolve visual performance issues.
  • Work with engineering teams to convert DXF, DWG, and other CAD drawings into accurate 3D spaces.
  • Maintain organized assets, consistent naming conventions, and version-control practices throughout the content pipeline.
  • Apply relevant security policies and procedures in support of secure software development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in game art, animation, computer graphics, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of professional experience as a 3D Technical Artist, Character Artist, or in a comparable role.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, especially MetaHuman Creator, Control Rig, and Animation Blueprints.
  • Experience with Maya, Blender, or a comparable toolset for modeling, rigging, and animation.
  • Strong understanding of real-time rendering, performance optimization, and physically based material workflows.
  • Experience with character retargeting, facial animation, and motion-capture cleanup.
  • Experience contributing to a version-controlled content pipeline using Perforce, Plastic SCM, or Git.
  • A comparable combination of relevant education, training, and experience may substitute for the listed qualifications.
  • Experience using Python or Blueprint scripting to automate asset workflows.
  • Familiarity with Niagara, subsurface-scattering materials, or Groom hair systems.
  • Experience with synthetic data generation, computer vision, or simulation environments.
  • Understanding of technical-art workflows for creating AI and machine-learning training datasets.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must not require current or future employment-visa sponsorship.
