UI Artist, AAA Games (Remote)

Create polished interfaces, motion, and visual effects for an AAA game development partner. Turn player-facing UI concepts into finished Unreal Engine UMG implementations.

Description

  • Partner with UX designers and the wider UI team to deliver polished, intuitive experiences for an AAA game project.
  • Turn wireframes and user flows into refined visual designs.
  • Develop high-fidelity mockups, visual explorations, design systems, and style guides.
  • Design menus, HUDs, icons, and other player-facing interface elements.
  • Produce UI animation, motion design, visual effects, and transitions.
  • Implement completed UI artwork directly in Unreal Engine with UMG.
  • Build and adjust UI materials and basic visual effects.
  • Use Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, and similar tools to create and refine UI art.
  • Uphold visual consistency and quality across the overall UI/UX experience.
  • Guide features from initial concept through implementation while responding to evolving requirements.

Requirements

  • At least two years of professional experience taking UI from initial concept through completion.
  • Professional experience with Unreal Engine and UMG.
  • Strong visual design ability supported by a compelling portfolio.
  • Proficiency with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable visual design software.
  • Solid understanding of layout, composition, hierarchy, typography, iconography, and interaction design.
  • Experience creating UI animation, motion design, or interactive visual design.
  • Experience implementing finished UI artwork in a game engine, beyond static design tools.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with UX, Art, Design, Engineering, and Production teams.
  • Strong player empathy and an understanding of how visual design enables usability and interaction.
  • Ability to adjust quickly as feature requirements and designs change.
  • Preferred: experience shipping UI for PC, console, or mobile games.
  • Preferred: experience designing responsive interfaces across resolutions and device types.
  • Preferred: experience with mobile UI.
  • Preferred: experience creating UI materials and shaders.
  • Preferred: experience optimizing or debugging UI in-engine.
  • Frontend experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is helpful but not required.
