Senior Engineering Manager, API Platform (Remote - United States)

Lead engineering teams delivering GameChanger’s youth-sports products and partner-facing API platform. Set technical direction, strengthen reliability, and drive execution across teams.

Description

  • Lead and grow a high-performing engineering squad
  • Work with Product, Design, Business Development, and senior technical leaders to define multi-quarter strategy, roadmaps, and measurable results
  • Turn partner, customer, and business needs into prioritized work
  • Coordinate delivery across team, platform, data, client, and other engineering groups
  • Identify dependencies, delivery risks, architectural limitations, and organizational constraints early
  • Direct the development of a secure, dependable, scalable API product
  • Define practices for authentication, authorization, versioning, documentation, observability, operational readiness, and support
  • Use partner input, product results, and service-health data to inform investment priorities
  • Coach engineers and technical leaders through ongoing development
  • Recruit and onboard engineers while fostering an inclusive team culture
  • Advance delivery practices, technical quality, and alignment across teams
  • Keep stakeholders informed about strategy, progress, tradeoffs, risks, and decisions
  • Lead initiatives spanning multiple teams and help evolve engineering culture and management practices
  • Report to the Director of Engineering

Requirements

  • At least six years of professional software engineering experience, including four or more years leading engineering teams and developing engineers across experience levels
  • Proven success leading teams that deliver reliable, customer-facing products across multiple teams, systems, and stakeholder groups
  • Experience setting multi-quarter strategy and converting ambiguous business objectives into defined outcomes
  • Background building or operating external customer- or partner-facing APIs, developer platforms, integrations, or distributed backend systems
  • Strong technical decision-making and substantial expertise in backend systems or API design
  • Working knowledge of authentication, authorization, backward compatibility, versioning, documentation, developer experience, observability, reliability, and support
  • Demonstrated ability to build inclusive, healthy teams, manage performance, coach senior engineers and emerging leaders, and create development opportunities
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and align engineering, product, business, and executive stakeholders
  • Experience establishing scalable processes or operating mechanisms across multiple teams
  • Experience working with third-party developers, strategic partners, or platform ecosystems is strongly preferred
  • Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, AWS, Redis, or PostgreSQL is a plus
  • Based in the United States and legally authorized to work there
  • At least 18 years old
