Senior GIS Developer, Spatial Data Integration — Peraton (Remote, United States)

Senior GIS Developer creating marine and anadromous species range maps for Peraton’s federal environmental data integration program. The role automates spatial validation and coordinates review and approval with FWS and NOAA.

Description

  • Produce complete species range maps for marine and anadromous taxa in accordance with the FWS Range Mapping Standard Operating Procedure
  • Review the FWS Range Mapping SOP by project kickoff or earlier
  • Aggregate and normalize spatial data from cloud platform outputs, including CRS transformations and spatial format standardization
  • Validate spatial intersections against authoritative geographic layers, including dynamic habitat boundaries and overlapping Critical Habitat designations
  • Lead iterative range map reviews with FWS Ecological Services and NOAA Fisheries subject-matter experts
  • Apply stakeholder feedback and deliver revised map versions
  • Prepare QA documentation for each range map and verify SOP acceptance criteria before government submission
  • Coordinate FWS Ecological Services approval of the Range Map Set deliverable
  • Help develop post-production range map updates for operational handoff documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience; master’s degree with 6 years; associate’s degree with 10 years; or high school diploma or equivalent with 12 years
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Ability to perform all work within the United States
  • Extensive GIS experience in species range mapping or federal environmental applications
  • Hands-on experience with the FWS Range Mapping SOP or comparable federal range mapping standards
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS, QGIS, or an equivalent GIS platform
  • Proficiency in Python for GIS automation and spatial processing, including ArcPy or comparable scripting libraries
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying and validating spatial data in cloud platforms
  • Experience transforming coordinate reference systems and normalizing spatial data
  • Experience validating spatial intersections and analyzing Critical Habitat
  • Strong QA documentation skills for geospatial deliverables
  • Preferred: experience with NOAA Fisheries marine or anadromous species range data
  • Preferred: familiarity with Databricks or cloud platforms used for spatial data retrieval
  • Preferred: experience coordinating formal government deliverable approvals
  • Preferred: GISP certification or an equivalent credential
