Senior Accountant, AI-Native | Mexico Remote

Lead end-to-end accounting for a rapidly growing premium food brand, including CPG inventory, US GAAP reporting, deductions, and financial dashboards. Drive automation across reconciliations, reporting, and finance operations using AI tools.

Description

  • Lead accounting operations for a rapidly growing premium food brand distributed through retail, natural-product channels, and direct-to-consumer sales.
  • Transition daily accounting responsibilities from an external firm into the company.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities using a forward-looking close calendar.
  • Oversee AP, AR, bank and card reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and intercompany accounting.
  • Keep balance sheets reconciled and deliver timely income statements with useful variance analysis.
  • Reconcile finished goods, raw materials, and packaging inventory across sites and sales channels.
  • Follow inventory through purchasing, production, warehousing, and sales.
  • Research and correct differences among the general ledger, warehouse data, and third-party platforms.
  • Develop inventory reporting covering stock levels, valuation, and COGS.
  • Apply US GAAP revenue recognition to CPG/FMCG transactions, including gross-to-net accounting, trade spend, slotting, promotions, and returns.
  • Maintain books that are ready for audits and lenders, lead audit preparation, and assist auditors and tax professionals.
  • Oversee retail and distributor deductions and chargebacks related to shortages, MCBs, spoilage, and freight.
  • Validate, challenge, submit, monitor, and recover deductions while communicating with customers and distributors on AR, collections, and disputes.
  • Review margin, COGS, supplier spending, and freight costs to uncover potential savings.
  • Manage cash reporting, AR aging, supplier terms, forecasting inputs, and line-of-credit information.
  • Handle sales tax, 1099 reporting, internal controls, and diligence preparation.
  • Create and maintain live dashboards covering close progress, AR aging, inventory, deduction recovery, cash, and margin.
  • Administer the cloud-based finance environment, including Xero and Airtable.
  • Integrate and automate ledger, banking, Airtable, deduction, OCR, and settlement systems.
  • Use Claude each day for reconciliations, categorization, dispute documentation, analysis, and process documentation, while verifying its output.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline.
  • Five or more years of full-cycle accounting experience, including monthly close management and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience reconciling CPG inventory and tracing its movement through a food or consumer goods business across locations and channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to create dashboards that provide current financial and operational visibility.
  • Advanced Claude AI proficiency with consistent daily use and verification of generated output.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and experience supporting US-based organizations.
  • Ability to independently manage Xero and Airtable.
  • Familiarity with trade spend, deductions, and chargeback disputes involving distributors or retailers.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, with proactive communication across time zones.
  • Experience in CPG, FMCG, food and beverage, or consumer goods is strongly preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent local credential is helpful.
  • Experience with natural-channel distributors such as UNFI or KeHE is helpful.
  • Experience supporting a high-growth or venture-backed consumer brand is helpful.
  • Experience moving accounting operations in-house from an external firm is helpful.
  • Experience creating automated accounting workflows involving OCR, settlement reconciliation, or deduction-management tools is helpful.
