Payroll Lead, Minnesota Judicial Branch Courts (Hybrid)

Lead payroll operations for Minnesota Judicial Branch courts, including SEMA4 transactions, staff direction, and accurate biweekly processing.

Description

  • Direct accounting staff responsible for payroll activities across the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Trial Courts, and designated Boards
  • Provide daily guidance, resolve complex payroll issues, support staff, and identify opportunities to improve processes
  • Coordinate payroll activities through the SEMA4 state payroll system
  • Oversee payroll transactions and ensure all biweekly processing deadlines are achieved
  • Apply professional accounting expertise to payroll and finance matters
  • Develop and maintain systems supporting payroll information and reporting
  • Review and interpret data to resolve issues and formulate recommendations
  • Apply finance policies, procedures, and applicable requirements
  • Calculate salaries in accordance with statutory provisions
  • Maintain accuracy, compliance, service quality, and timely resolution of payroll finance matters
  • Represent the Courts on teams and statewide committees focused on payroll processing and reporting
  • Lead monthly payroll meetings and liaise between MN Management and Budget Payroll Service and the Minnesota Judicial Branch
  • Distribute payroll information to stakeholders statewide
  • Support the development, review, revision, and implementation of payroll policies and procedures
  • Assess existing processes and recommend changes that strengthen fiscal accountability, efficiency, compliance, and consistency
  • Enter and validate payroll transactions, review payroll reports, audit business expenses, and complete other financial tasks

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • An associate degree in accounting or a related field plus substantial public-sector payroll or accounting experience with automated systems may replace the bachelor’s degree requirement
  • Professional accounting or finance experience in the public sector using automated systems, with some supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with Minnesota’s SEMA4 statewide payroll system and SWIFT accounting system preferred
  • Knowledge of payroll methods and practices
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting and payroll applications
  • Ability to enter transactions and data accurately into state database systems
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Judicial Branch employees and judges
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Strong organization and careful attention to detail
  • Sound critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Successful completion of a background check required
  • Availability during standard Monday-through-Friday business hours
