AI Engineer, Backend — Remote in Germany, Austria, or Spain
Build backend services, RAG systems, and LLM-powered applications for WBS GRUPPE’s digital education ecosystem. Improve business processes through reliable software, data integration, and automated workflows.
Description
- Build maintainable, thoroughly tested backend and full-stack applications using Clean Code, TDD, and sound architecture
- Create business-focused AI solutions, including RAG systems, assistants, and generative text processing with existing LLMs
- Use development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to improve delivery speed and software quality
- Connect AI models and services with established systems and operational workflows
- Create data integration solutions that support continuous, automated information flows
- Prepare and transform data for use in AI applications
- Design, document, and deploy well-structured APIs
- Implement automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
- Assess and continuously improve software components and RAG pipelines
- Help optimize business processes and advance strategic company objectives
Requirements
- At least five years of professional software development experience, preferably in a senior position
- Advanced Python skills for backend engineering, data work, and prototyping; comparable languages may also be relevant
- Experience with TypeScript and/or C# is an advantage
- Hands-on knowledge of Clean Code, Test-Driven Development, automated testing, and code reviews
- Deep understanding of RAG pipelines and vector databases
- Practical experience building applications powered by large language models
- Strong backend engineering skills paired with frontend familiarity, including TypeScript and React
- Capacity to handle competing priorities and direct solutions toward measurable value
- Ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical stakeholders and work effectively with varied teams
- German proficiency at C1 level or higher in both written and spoken communication
- Current residence in Germany, Austria, or Spain
- Experience with tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code, or with agentic development, is desirable
- Experience planning and delivering software development projects is desirable
- Ability to produce clear, precise technical documentation is desirable
- Willingness to explore creative ideas and test new approaches is desirable
