Senior SRE Engineer – Observability and Reliability

Description

  • Own and advance Datadog as the primary observability platform across APM, tracing, log pipelines, metrics, RUM, Synthetics, SLOs, monitors, and Cloud SIEM.
  • Build complete observability coverage for AWS production services, including ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, EventBridge/SQS, CloudFront, and WAF.
  • Establish and monitor SLIs and SLOs for critical user journeys, including ongoing error-budget tracking.
  • Create focused alerting by reducing false positives, duplicate notifications, and inefficient monitors.
  • Integrate and review security telemetry from CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Inspector, Macie, and VPC Flow Logs.
  • Lead critical-incident response through triage, event correlation, clear communication, root-cause analysis, and postmortems.
  • Strengthen technical governance through runbooks, playbooks, and support for Change Management in Jira Service Management.
  • Support PCI DSS compliance by preparing monitoring, logging, and file-integrity-monitoring evidence and assisting with audits and penetration tests.
  • Control observability FinOps by optimizing Datadog spending related to retention, log indexing, and metric cardinality.
  • Act as the technical owner and principal point of reference for platform observability and reliability.

Requirements

  • At least eight years of hands-on experience in SRE, observability, or supporting business-critical environments.
  • Advanced practical expertise with Datadog, including APM, Traces, Logs, Synthetics, SLOs, and dashboards.
  • Strong AWS architecture knowledge for operational troubleshooting, including CloudWatch, CloudTrail, ECS, Lambda, queues, and event-driven services.
  • Experience handling incident, problem, and change management under ITIL or a comparable framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce structured technical documentation such as runbooks, playbooks, and postmortems.
  • A delivery-oriented approach with the ability to execute and troubleshoot beyond theoretical or architectural design.
  • Capability to independently own observability work and prioritize the backlog without close supervision.
  • Adaptability in changing environments, receptiveness to feedback, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal communication for transparent, coordinated work with engineering, QA, and product teams.
  • Advanced or fluent English proficiency.
  • Experience in payments, fintech, or environments governed by PCI DSS.
  • Familiarity with Cloud SIEM and AWS security services such as GuardDuty, Inspector, and Macie.
  • Experience with Observability as Code using Terraform and the Datadog API.
  • Ability to read and analyze Go and/or TypeScript/Node.js code for diagnostic support.
