Senior Principal IT Enterprise Architect, Infrastructure and Security

Shape enterprise architecture for Medtronic’s healthcare technology, infrastructure, and data platforms. Guide cloud security, interoperability, data, and architecture strategy.

Description

  • Set enterprise architecture standards and practices with the Enterprise Architecture team.
  • Review the technology portfolio, identify gaps, and guide modernization and capability growth.
  • Create technology capability models and roadmaps that reflect business priorities.
  • Spot opportunities and risks across value streams and help define platform strategy.
  • Evaluate IT solutions, surface technical risks, and advise on architecture direction.
  • Guide design choices that support a resilient, scalable, sustainable technology environment.
  • Represent Global Architecture in reviews of new initiatives, component viability, and major design decisions.
  • Help teams prepare for the Architecture Review Board and IT governance forums.
  • Take part in architecture reviews and uphold enterprise standards and alignment.
  • Keep architecture documentation and technical risk reviews complete and current.
  • Connect business and solution architecture across design, implementation, and enhancements.
  • Advise technology teams on aligning systems and infrastructure with enterprise architecture strategy.
  • Build value-stream roadmaps, assess capabilities and gaps, define improvement plans, and support portfolio rationalization.
  • Track industry and market trends and analyze their impact on transformation initiatives.
  • Contribute to solution selection and system integrator assessments.
  • Work with Enterprise Portfolio Management to align architecture plans with delivery priorities.
  • Share architecture direction, results, and progress with senior leaders.
  • Design architectures for connected devices, edge computing, mobile apps, and A2A/B2B integrations.
  • Create cloud security architectures, migration plans, automated controls, guardrails, and compliance scans.
  • Ensure cloud infrastructure meets applicable regulations and security frameworks.
  • Define enterprise data architecture and governance, including clinical data standards and real-world data patterns.
  • Lead interoperability and API strategies using FHIR, HL7 v2+, DICOM, OMOP, and secure partner data exchange frameworks.
  • Lead technical due diligence and integration planning for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Develop solution roadmaps using SAFe/Scaled Agile, business capability models, APQC, EPMO tools, and process-mining insights.
  • Apply Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, microservices, Kafka, data pipeline, and DevSecOps expertise.
  • Collaborate with business and IT leaders on strategic technology opportunities.
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to innovation, demand management, and portfolio processes.
  • Build a collaborative, inclusive, globally connected team environment and model Medtronic values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 10 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 8 years with an advanced degree.
  • U.S. work authorization rules apply; unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required for roles below Principal level.
  • For a bachelor’s degree earned outside the United States, a degree meeting 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
  • Five or more years in a relevant architecture discipline preferred.
  • Five or more years working with data architecture, data modeling, and data management preferred.
  • Three or more years working with enterprise-class architecture concepts preferred.
  • Three or more years in information architecture, or five or more years as a data analyst, business intelligence analyst, or equivalent, preferred.
  • Two or more years designing data architecture for cloud-based solutions in an enterprise setting preferred.
  • Three or more years working with large enterprise ERP data models preferred.
  • Three or more years in business capability, process, technology, and data modeling preferred.
  • Knowledge of user experience modeling, information design, and concept generation preferred.
  • Certifications in TOGAF, ITIL, COBIT, or comparable frameworks preferred.
  • Strong business judgment, decision-making, influence, leadership, teamwork, communication, presentation, and results-focused skills preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, leaders, clients, and vendors preferred.
  • Experience working in a global, virtual organization preferred.
  • Technical depth and credibility with technology staff preferred.
  • Experience in medical devices or another regulated industry preferred.
  • Ability to mentor and develop business, architecture, and technical colleagues preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively preferred.
  • Prior internal experience in the value streams is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to work with Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, microservices, Kafka, CI/CD, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Knowledge of cloud security architectures, cloud-native services, enterprise migration strategies, NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, and FedRAMP.
  • Knowledge of FHIR, HL7 v2+, DICOM, OMOP, webMethods or comparable integration platforms, SAFe/Scaled Agile, APQC, and EPMO tools.
