Senior Manager, Data Engineering at KIPP Foundation (Remote)

Lead data engineering strategy and delivery for KIPP Foundation’s governed BI platforms, Tableau environment, and data pipelines. Oversee architecture, data quality, stakeholder collaboration, and engineering team development.

Description

  • Own and optimize data and business intelligence platforms
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and data solution architecture
  • Build and deliver ETL pipelines, data models, and monitoring controls
  • Manage end-to-end delivery of data architecture and pipeline solutions from planning through testing
  • Develop and maintain the semantic layer as a governed source of truth for business intelligence
  • Establish and operate data quality processes covering monitoring, alerting, root cause analysis, resolution, impact assessment, and sizing
  • Improve data architecture, pipelines, monitoring standards, and operational controls
  • Lead Tableau platform administration, enhancements, maintenance, and stakeholder communications
  • Maintain BI platform availability, performance, security, operations, and governance
  • Develop foundational AI-enabled analytics capabilities within the BI platform
  • Coordinate communications and project plans across analytics, application development, data strategy, IT operations, product management, and regional data teams
  • Lead sprint planning, execution, and release delivery
  • Monitor progress, risks, and dependencies while removing delivery blockers
  • Support team members in developing validated, documented data and BI solutions
  • Manage and develop FTE or contractor team members through clear expectations, feedback, and coaching
  • Report to the Senior Director of Data Management and Governance

Requirements

  • At least eight years of professional experience in data engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience working with SQL-based data platforms, including SQL Server
  • Experience with cloud data warehouse or lakehouse platforms such as Fabric/OneLake, Snowflake, or Databricks
  • Background building and managing ETL processes and data pipelines
  • Experience leading and mentoring data engineering professionals
  • Strong working knowledge of SSIS, Spark, PySpark, and SQL
  • Proven experience administering and operating Tableau infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments
  • Experience using Git-based version control and CI/CD platforms such as Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps
  • Experience with SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric/OneLake is preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree in data engineering, computer science, information systems, or a related field is preferred
  • A master’s degree is preferred
  • Knowledge of managing and architecting on-premises and cloud data platforms
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, ETL and data pipelines, version control, agile sprint practices, project management tools, and machine learning principles
