Senior Data Engineer, Semantics and Domain Models - Chain IQ, Lisbon Onsite

Lead the semantic foundations of Chain IQ’s AI-enabled procurement platform through ontology design, knowledge graphs, and context modeling. Your work will support data retrieval, machine reasoning, workflow automation, and AI-agent execution.

Description

  • Create and maintain procurement ontologies that define business entities, attributes, relationships, events, states, and concepts.
  • Own semantic models for suppliers, contracts, obligations, sourcing events, categories, risks, savings, and operational workflows.
  • Build and refine procurement knowledge graphs that capture entities, relationships, dependencies, events, and business context.
  • Establish context-graph patterns for users, workflows, retrieval systems, and AI agents.
  • Represent temporal relationships, lifecycle states, provenance, hierarchies, ownership, and dependencies.
  • Define graph-building methods that connect structured data, documents, communications, workflow events, and external signals with canonical entities.
  • Develop methods for entity resolution, supplier normalization, deduplication, identity management, and relationship-confidence assessment.
  • Set validation rules and quality standards for ontology and knowledge-graph structures.
  • Ensure semantic and graph models enable retrieval, reasoning, recommendations, workflow automation, and agentic execution.
  • Partner with Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Product, AI, Domain, and Governance teams.
  • Reduce duplicated business logic by centralizing meaning in shared semantic and graph assets.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in semantic modeling, ontology design, knowledge graphs, graph data modeling, or domain modeling.
  • Strong grasp of entities, relationships, events, lifecycle states, and business context.
  • Ability to convert complex procurement concepts into reusable semantic and graph structures.
  • Working knowledge of graph databases, RDF or property-graph concepts, ontologies, taxonomies, or knowledge representation.
  • Understanding of entity resolution, normalization, provenance, lineage, and metadata management.
  • Ability to design models that are clear to people and usable for machine reasoning.
  • Comfort working with data engineers, architects, product teams, domain specialists, and AI engineers.
  • Strong focus on consistency, accuracy, and sustainable semantic model maintenance.

Benefits

  • Work in a dynamic, internationally oriented environment.
