Remote Field Service Engineer, Electron Microscopy | Thermo Fisher Scientific

Install, service, and calibrate Thermo Fisher electron microscopy systems, including SEM, TEM, and FIB equipment. Support scientific, semiconductor, university, government, and industrial customers across assigned U.S. territories.

Description

  • Install, maintain, repair, and calibrate electron microscopy systems, including SEM, TEM, and FIB equipment
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to maintain system performance
  • Diagnose complex issues involving electronics, vacuum systems, high-voltage components, and integrated software
  • Deliver customer support and work with field service engineers to resolve technical challenges
  • Build customer relationships while supporting satisfaction and system uptime
  • Travel to customer sites for installations, repairs, and operational support
  • Record service work and complete detailed field service reports
  • Train customers and provide technical guidance on system operation and maintenance
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and quality requirements
  • Share product feedback with engineering, product quality, and service leadership teams
  • Help update technical documentation and service procedures
  • At higher experience levels, mentor junior engineers, lead complex installations, and provide technical escalation support
  • Contribute to Thermo Fisher Scientific’s microscopy workflow solutions for scientific, environmental, food safety, and healthcare applications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronics, engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience with electronic systems
  • Field Service Engineer I: at least 1 year of hands-on experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating sophisticated analytical equipment such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or comparable systems
  • Field Service Engineer II: at least 3 years of hands-on experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating complex analytical instrumentation
  • Field Service Engineer III: at least 5 years of experience supporting sophisticated analytical systems and resolving complex system-level issues
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% within the assigned territory
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in laboratory environments
  • English proficiency
  • Hands-on experience with SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar advanced analytical systems
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high-vacuum systems
  • Experience working with high-voltage equipment
  • Strong electronics and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including component-level diagnosis
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and system diagrams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and service management software
  • Experience documenting service work and preparing detailed reports
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and quality standards
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based role
  • Ability to train and support customers in system operation
