Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve inland marine property and liability claims for The Hanover Insurance Group. Manage commercial coverage matters with exposures primarily up to $25,000.

Description

  • Investigate, assess, negotiate, and resolve claims ranging from minimal to moderately complex
  • Manage marine and inland marine claims involving property and liability coverage
  • Handle claims primarily involving exposures of up to $25,000
  • Process claims across Residential Builders Risk, Ocean Marine, Boat Dealers & Owned Boats, Fine Art & Valuables, Musical Instruments & Dealers, Motor Truck Cargo & Transportation, Warehouse Legal Liability, Contractors Equipment & Equipment Dealers, and Railroad Rolling Stock
  • Complete detailed investigations, including telephone interviews with involved parties
  • Manage assignments of moderate technical complexity within defined authority and limits
  • Use independent judgment and discretion throughout the claim-handling process
  • Recognize claims that may warrant suspicion or further review
  • Interpret commercial insurance coverage provisions and business contracts
  • Apply technical knowledge of marine insurance products and established industry practices
  • Reach timely, well-supported, and confident claim decisions
  • Build productive relationships with internal and external customers
  • Create claim-resolution approaches while adapting to changing situations, requirements, and priorities
  • Work collaboratively across teams and support clear, open communication

Requirements

  • Associate degree required; a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
  • Generally requires two to three years of relevant claims-handling experience
  • Hold or obtain the required state adjuster licenses and maintain applicable continuing education credits
  • Read and interpret business contracts effectively
  • Demonstrate, or be developing, core commercial loss-scoping and estimating capabilities
  • Have a foundational understanding of Marine and Inland Marine business classes, including the nationwide definition of Inland Marine
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Skilled negotiator who can manage challenging discussions with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable statutes, regulations, and case law
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
  • Proficient with claims platforms such as CMX and PMS
  • May need to maintain an adequate internet connection for home-based work
