Fraud Risk Analyst, New Account Origination (Hybrid)

U.S. Bank is seeking a Fraud Risk Analyst to develop data-driven fraud rules for new account originations. The role analyzes trends, tests controls, and improves fraud prevention strategies while balancing customer and operational needs.

Description

  • Analyze complex data to uncover emerging fraud patterns
  • Create, implement, test, and continuously improve fraud rule strategies for new account originations
  • Manage fraud rule strategies for one or more products using SAS, SQL, Python, and related analytical tools
  • Measure business impact while balancing fraud reduction, customer experience, and operational efficiency
  • Assess emerging fraud trends and evaluate the performance and efficiency of existing rules
  • Apply statistical analysis and performance monitoring to recommend thresholds, segmentation, and treatment approaches
  • Plan and conduct strategy tests, including champion-challenger initiatives
  • Track rule performance, identify anomalies, validate thresholds, and strengthen strategies and processes
  • Use approved AI, analytics, automation, and visualization tools to accelerate analysis and improve fraud detection
  • Turn analytical results into actionable recommendations and communicate strategy changes, rule insights, and business impact
  • Partner with operations, technology, risk management, and other cross-functional teams
  • Perform root-cause analysis while maintaining compliance and governance alignment
  • Build sustainable strategies and support rule development for First-Party Fraud and Third-Party Fraud

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Typically more than six years of relevant experience
  • Strong experience in fraud analytics and fraud rule development
  • Advanced working knowledge of SQL, SAS, and Python
  • Ability to independently design analytical frameworks, automate complex processes, develop predictive models, and convert large-scale data into fraud risk strategies and business recommendations
  • Experience developing fraud strategies for account origination, onboarding, identity verification, or digital banking
  • Experience with external fraud and identity providers such as Socure, LexisNexis, and SentiLink
  • Experience with strategy testing, segmentation analysis, or champion-challenger experiments
  • Experience analyzing large datasets for strategy testing, treatment analysis, and performance evaluation
  • Knowledge of Fair and Responsible Banking principles and related compliance requirements for strategy development
  • Broad knowledge of banking systems and experience with fraud decisioning platforms and rule engines
  • Deep understanding of fraud typologies, including First-Party Fraud, Third-Party Fraud, Synthetic Identity Fraud, and related risks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to influence cross-functional partners through clear communication and data-based recommendations
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong organization, attention to detail, and sound judgment
  • Commitment to compliance, internal controls, and the ethical use of technology, including approved AI tools
  • Proficiency with computer navigation, Microsoft Office, and data analysis software
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline; a master’s degree is preferred
  • Ability to work from a U.S. Bank location at least three days per week
