Financial Counseling Coordinator – California Remote

Support oncology patients with financial counseling, cost education, and pre-service clearance. Identify reimbursement risks and help Navista community oncology practices reduce claim denials.

Description

  • Review daily schedules to flag patients who need financial clearance
  • Explain expected patient costs, including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums
  • Discuss treatment costs and payment expectations with patients before services are provided
  • Help patients understand their financial responsibilities
  • Assess scheduled-service risks involving coverage limits, medical necessity, frequency restrictions, and out-of-network benefits
  • Flag accounts that could produce patient balances or denied claims
  • Refer high-risk accounts for additional review
  • Work with clinical and administrative teams to help prevent claim denials
  • Help resolve pre-service financial issues that could affect reimbursement
  • Monitor patterns involving financial risk and patient responsibility
  • Keep complete records of financial counseling conversations
  • Document notes according to organizational standards while safeguarding patient information under HIPAA
  • Partner with internal teams to support accurate, timely revenue cycle operations
  • Deliver responsive, high-quality customer service
  • Handle competing priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Take on other related assignments and projects as needed

Requirements

  • At least four years of experience in a healthcare business office or revenue cycle environment is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of insurance, benefits, and patient financial assistance programs
  • Solid understanding of oncology treatment pathways
  • Experience with high-cost oncology medications, infusion services, and specialty pharmacy billing is preferred
  • Working knowledge of diagnosis-driven financial impacts is preferred
  • Experience using billing systems and interpreting explanations of benefits (EOBs)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication abilities
  • Ability to work across EMR, registration or PMS, and verification-of-benefits systems
  • Ability to verify authorizations and complete financial clearance with limited supervision
  • Sound critical-thinking skills and adaptability when processes or workflows change
  • Experience in oncology or specialty care is preferred
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, managed care principles, and fee structures
  • Experience in financial counseling or other patient-facing financial work
