Engineering Manager, AI Workflows – Xero, Australia Hybrid

Lead Xero’s Internal AI Accelerator as it scales agentic AI workflows, enterprise architecture, and governance across business functions.

Description

  • Build and develop the Internal AI Accelerator into a complete engineering squad
  • Set the strategy, delivery direction, and roadmap for Xero’s agentic AI workflows
  • Create and launch AI workflows that reduce manual effort, speed decisions, and deliver measurable productivity improvements
  • Work with business leaders across G&A, Finance, P&C, and IT
  • Develop reusable AI patterns and governance frameworks with partner teams
  • Create playbooks and reference architectures that enable adoption across teams
  • Expand agentic AI delivery across finance, HR, support, and operations
  • Develop reusable patterns, platforms, and governance frameworks
  • Design and implement architecture for enterprise AI deployments
  • Define scalable practices for AI safety, evaluation, and operations
  • Maintain delivery momentum, resolve blockers, and ensure the team ships production software
  • Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to design and launch AI workflows

Requirements

  • Demonstrated engineering credibility, preferably through shipping production software at scale
  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to earn team trust without coding as a primary responsibility
  • A pragmatic approach to strategy, including moving forward with incomplete information, defining vague problems clearly, and adapting as circumstances change
  • Confident leadership that gives teams ownership, questions processes that hinder delivery, and supports innovation
  • Curiosity about people and a sustained commitment to coaching and developing engineers
  • The ability to connect technical and non-technical domains and communicate effectively with engineers and business stakeholders
  • Working rights in Australia through citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa
