Accountant I, Controller’s Office — Hybrid
Support bank-account reconciliation and Workday transaction review for Washington University. Handle exceptions, journal entries, credit-card analysis, fraud checks, and audit preparation.
Description
- Reconcile the university’s operational bank accounts, including Off Campus Housing accounts
- Match bank accounts with Workday transactions
- Investigate discrepancies and resolve them in collaboration with departments
- Apply University policies and compliance requirements
- Deliver professional support when resolving complex issues
- Suggest improvements to policies and procedures
- Process foreign checks, returned payments, and positive pay exceptions
- Review positive pay activity for possible fraud and escalate findings to management
- Prepare journal entries and ad hoc bank transactions in Workday
- Evaluate daily exception reports and complete account reconciliations
- Conduct monthly credit-card activity reviews and analyze related fees
- Prepare departmental allocations when charges are required
- Support fiscal year-end work and develop supporting schedules
- Collect, analyze, and organize information for internal and external auditors
- Complete special projects and other assigned responsibilities
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is required, although a combination of education and/or experience may satisfy the minimum education requirement
- At least one year of relevant experience
- Ability to reconcile bank accounts with Workday transactions
- Working knowledge of bank-reconciliation procedures and systems
- Ability to prepare journal entries and ad hoc bank transactions in Workday
- Ability to analyze bank transactions, exception reports, credit-card activity, fees, and fraud indicators
- Ability to perform account reconciliations and account analysis
- Ability to prepare auditor reports and supporting schedules
- A bachelor’s degree in business or accounting is preferred
- Banking or account-reconciliation experience is preferred
- Proficiency or familiarity with 10-Key Calculator, Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Computer Literacy, Financial Systems, General Ledger (GL), IBI WebFocus, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
- A driver’s license is not required
- No specific certification or professional license is required
- External candidates who receive an offer must complete pre-employment screening
