Remote VFX Director, Unreal Engine

Set the artistic direction and lead the VFX team creating real-time gameplay and cinematic effects for Studio Wildcard’s ARK game worlds. Shape production workflows and pipelines while balancing visual quality, gameplay readability, and performance in Unreal.

Tavsif

  • Set and uphold the VFX vision and quality standards across Studio Wildcard projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and give creative direction to VFX artists, supporting their growth and development.
  • Create VFX style guides, visual standards, workflows, and production practices.
  • Partner with art, engineering, design, animation, cinematics, and production teams to create cohesive visuals.
  • Direct interactive effects for environments, abilities, weapons, creatures, destruction, weather, magic, and explosions.
  • Ensure VFX assets meet performance, scalability, readability, and platform needs.
  • Work with technical artists and engineers to improve VFX tools, shaders, materials, particle systems, and pipelines.
  • Set up efficient VFX review and iteration processes.
  • Balance visual polish with gameplay clarity and technical performance.
  • Join creative reviews and give artists clear, actionable feedback.
  • Help plan VFX staffing, schedules, priorities, and production resources.
  • Find emerging VFX tools and techniques that can improve quality and efficiency.
  • Stay current with real-time rendering, simulation, procedural, and cinematic VFX techniques.
  • Set creative direction, build an ambitious artistic culture, mentor artists, encourage experimentation, uphold quality standards, and represent the VFX team in planning and technical development.

Talablar

  • Bring 7 or more years of professional VFX experience in AAA games, film, animation, or comparable real-time entertainment.
  • Have prior experience leading or directing a VFX team.
  • Understand real-time VFX production and Unreal Engine 5 or later.
  • Show that you can establish and maintain a consistent visual style across a large project.
  • Demonstrate strong artistic judgment in color, composition, timing, motion, lighting, scale, and visual storytelling.
  • Have experience with particle systems, shaders or materials, textures, animation, simulations, and procedural effects.
  • Understand performance optimization and real-time rendering constraints.
  • Communicate, lead, and collaborate effectively.
  • Give clear artistic feedback and help maintain a positive, creative team environment.
  • Have worked across disciplines in game development.
  • Provide a portfolio showcasing high-quality VFX work.
  • Preferred: Experience with Unreal Engine or another modern real-time engine.
  • Preferred: Experience creating VFX for large open-world or multiplayer games.
  • Preferred: Experience with creature, environmental, elemental, weather, destruction, and combat effects.
  • Preferred: Experience directing cinematic VFX and trailer work.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Niagara, Houdini, Substance tools, or similar procedural and VFX technologies.
  • Preferred: Experience building or improving VFX production pipelines and tools.
  • Preferred: Experience working with technical artists and graphics programmers.
  • Preferred: Interest in dinosaurs, creatures, survival games, science fiction, fantasy, or expansive worlds.
