Senior Solutions Architect (Remote, United States)

Design secure, scalable managed IT solutions that connect client objectives with practical technology architectures at CompassMSP. Lead discovery, solution documentation, pre-sales collaboration, and delivery handoffs.

Description

  • Lead technical discovery and assess current environments, business goals, operational needs, dependencies, risks, and future-state objectives.
  • Design secure, scalable, supportable, and cost-conscious architectures across Microsoft cloud, infrastructure, networking, identity, cybersecurity, continuity, and managed services.
  • Embed security, privacy, compliance, resilience, data protection, monitoring, scalability, licensing, supportability, and lifecycle needs into each design.
  • Produce detailed Statements of Work, diagrams, bills of materials, implementation plans, estimates, assumptions, dependencies, exclusions, timelines, deliverables, and acceptance criteria.
  • Work with Account Management and vCIO teams on pre-sales, presentations, solution reviews, roadmaps, and proposals, clearly explaining recommendations, tradeoffs, and technical considerations.
  • Maintain architecture principles, technology standards, reference designs, patterns, documentation templates, and exception processes aligned with CompassMSP’s services and strategy.
  • Lead or contribute to peer and architecture reviews for complex or high-risk solutions, confirming quality, standards compliance, delivery readiness, and risk controls before approval.
  • Coordinate handoffs to project management and engineering, record architectural decisions and risks, and resolve design questions, scope gaps, and technical blockers during delivery.
  • Collaborate with vendors and distributors to assess technologies, verify fit, confirm pricing and availability, review product lifecycles, and coordinate complex requirements.
  • Use engagement reviews, delivery feedback, technology updates, and project outcomes to improve estimates, architecture quality, services, reusable standards, and processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer across sales, account management, vCIO, engineering, project management, and service delivery while managing competing priorities.
  • Confirm that solution designs and Statements of Work are complete, accurate, and aligned with client goals, security needs, standards, budgets, and response targets.
  • Define project scope with clear labor, cost, risk, and margin assumptions to support timely, budget-conscious, profitable delivery.
  • Refine standards, templates, reference architectures, estimating methods, service offerings, and internal processes using delivery results and stakeholder feedback.

Requirements

  • Bring 8 or more years of progressive IT experience, including at least two years in a Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Senior Systems Engineer, or similar client-facing architecture role.
  • Have proven experience in a Managed Service Provider environment, including knowledge of recurring services, project delivery, supportability, and client lifecycle needs.
  • Demonstrate broad expertise in Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, virtualization, identity, networking, security, backup, disaster recovery, and endpoint technologies.
  • Show a track record of leading discovery, assessing complex environments, and balancing technical needs, business outcomes, risk, cost, and operational readiness.
  • Create detailed Statements of Work, solution diagrams, bills of materials, project estimates, and proposals for executive audiences.
  • Understand solution costing, licensing, procurement, margin considerations, and the commercial factors behind successful project delivery.
  • Communicate complex ideas effectively through strong writing, speaking, presentation, and facilitation skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Apply strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities while managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines accurately.
  • Collaborate effectively with sales, account management, vCIO, engineering, project management, procurement, finance, vendors, and client stakeholders.
