Senior Software Engineer II, Ads Quality — Remote, United States

Build machine learning infrastructure for Instacart’s Ads Quality organization, spanning model training, serving, and real-time feature systems. Improve advertising performance across a grocery delivery marketplace through scalable, low-latency engineering.

Description

  • Create, deploy, and evolve machine learning infrastructure for challenging marketplace problems
  • Extend the company-wide ML training and serving platform in partnership with the ML Foundation team
  • Improve training and serving performance across throughput, cost, latency, accelerator usage, and tail latency
  • Diagnose infrastructure and operational-process instability to strengthen system availability
  • Develop real-time feature-processing infrastructure and low-latency pipelines that deliver fresh model inputs
  • Own infrastructure for a real-time sequential foundation model, including online sequence stores, streaming updates, long-context serving, and training workflows
  • Co-design technical systems with product managers, data scientists, and machine learning engineers
  • Work with stakeholders to connect technical solutions to business objectives
  • Guide technical direction, review code, and support the growth of other engineers
  • Promote ongoing improvement and high standards of technical execution

Requirements

  • Hold a graduate degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, operations research, or a comparable combination of independent study and experience
  • Bring at least three years of industry experience developing ML infrastructure or applying machine learning to real-world, large-scale data problems
  • Demonstrate substantial experience building, scaling, and operating production ML training or serving infrastructure
  • Understand contemporary machine learning systems and MLOps practices
  • Program confidently in Python and/or Go
  • Work proficiently with SQL, Spark, and Pandas
  • Have hands-on expertise with Torch, TensorFlow, and XGBoost
  • Apply strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in writing and conversation
  • Collaborate productively with stakeholders across functions and organizational levels
  • Be comfortable taking on unfamiliar domains, programming languages, and problem spaces
