Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Module Assembly

Lead module assembly demonstrators and experimental programmes for Rolls-Royce SMR. Drive manufacturability, production readiness and industrialisation for advanced nuclear technology.

Description

  • Lead senior manufacturing engineering activities for the Modularisation Development Programme
  • Deliver module assembly demonstrators and experimental programmes
  • Support validation of module designs, manufacturing processes and assembly methods
  • Determine resource needs and coordinate internal teams, suppliers and delivery partners
  • Deliver technical, safety, quality, cost and schedule objectives
  • Evaluate designs, processes and assembly methods for manufacturability
  • Align demonstrator delivery with Rolls-Royce SMR’s modularisation strategy and planned module assembly approach
  • Define, schedule, track and control manufacturing engineering work packages
  • Identify and manage risks, issues and dependencies
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, suppliers and delivery partners
  • Support projects and work packages with annual budgets that may reach several million pounds
  • Document and share manufacturing evidence, knowledge and lessons to guide design and industrialisation decisions
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, facilities, quality, procurement, project delivery and supply chain functions
  • Provide project leadership, technical delivery and functional people leadership without direct line-management responsibility

Requirements

  • Extensive practical experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering, including high-value or complex R&D, new product introduction, industrialisation or capability-acquisition projects
  • Strong applied knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly, process development, assembly sequencing, tooling, facilities and production readiness
  • Sound safety practices and quality-focused engineering judgement in a regulated environment
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and supplier engagement capabilities
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and provide clear technical direction without formal authority
  • Demonstrated experience defining, planning, resourcing, monitoring and controlling engineering projects, work packages and technical deliverables
  • Professional engineering qualification, such as a UK HND, foundation degree or national equivalent
  • Substantial manufacturing or industrial engineering experience, especially in a regulated sector such as nuclear, aerospace or defence
  • BPSS clearance is required
  • DBS participation and basic financial probity checks are required
  • Professional engineering accreditation, such as ECUK IEng or CEng, is preferred
  • Project management qualification, such as APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner or PMP, is desirable
