Remote Project Accountant in Oregon

Manage project setup, billing, change orders, financial analysis, and closeout activities for engineering and architectural projects. Aston Carter offers this contract opportunity as part of its corporate talent solutions business.

Description

  • Review client contracts and establish projects in the project accounting system
  • Complete project setup accurately and on schedule according to internal standards
  • Manage invoice preparation, revisions, posting, and packet archiving
  • Prepare invoices for multi-million-dollar engineering and architectural projects
  • Process and support payments for subconsultants and subcontractors
  • Track and administer project change orders
  • Coordinate with project managers on deadlines, milestones, and progress-based billing
  • Apply lump-sum and time-and-materials billing approaches
  • Analyze work in process and accounts receivable
  • Complete project closeouts, including reconciliations and final invoicing
  • Investigate and answer internal and external questions about project finances and invoices
  • Support audits by providing documentation, explanations, and financial analysis
  • Help implement, test, and enhance departmental software and tools
  • Provide peer guidance as a project accounting systems subject matter expert
  • Partner with IT on system maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Use advanced Excel functions for project analysis and reporting
  • Keep invoice, change order, and project financial records well organized
  • Support diverse clients and project types across engineering and architectural environments

Requirements

  • At least one year of project billing experience at an engineering or architectural company with more than $75 million in revenue
  • At least one year of experience invoicing multi-million-dollar projects
  • At least one year of experience managing and billing change orders
  • At least one year of experience coordinating with project managers on deadlines and milestones
  • Practical billing experience in an engineering or architectural firm
  • Strong knowledge of lump-sum and time-and-materials billing methods
  • Proficiency with Deltek Vantagepoint, Deltek Vision, or BST project accounting systems
  • Advanced Excel capability, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, and INDEX MATCH
  • Experience invoicing projects for engineering or architectural firms
  • Experience with project analysis, work-in-process reporting, project closeouts, and subconsultant and subcontractor invoices
  • Ability to interpret contract terms and apply them correctly to project setup and billing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability for complex reconciliations and financial questions
  • Clear communication skills for working with project managers, internal teams, and external clients
  • Exceptional accuracy in financial data entry, invoice preparation, and recordkeeping
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related business field
  • Experience creating or using Excel macros
  • Familiarity with work-in-process analysis and accounts receivable tracking
  • Experience serving as an audit liaison
  • Experience supporting accounting or project management software implementation and testing
  • Ability to act as a subject matter expert for project accounting systems and procedures
  • Comfort handling complex, multi-million-dollar projects and high-volume billing
  • Adaptability when supporting different clients and project types in engineering and architectural settings
