  • Partner with NCEP, NWS field offices, academic researchers, and external organizations to create short- and medium-range hazardous-weather forecast tools.
  • Apply meteorological science and technical expertise to determine and communicate hazard information.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and participate in conferences, symposia, and hazardous-weather outreach events.
  • Help transition forecaster tools from WPC and other NOAA groups into operational use at WPC and additional NOAA offices.
  • Build web applications with tools and languages including GIS, Python, and PHP.
  • Create training materials that support operational adoption of new tools and techniques.
  • Design and train machine-learning models that identify precursors to hazardous-weather events.
  • Deploy AI-based anomaly-detection systems to find errors or gaps in real-time forecast data.
  • Enhance existing forecaster tools and develop new forecasting services and applications.
  • Apply neural networks to improve high-resolution numerical weather-prediction models.
  • Select relevant satellite, land-use, and meteorological datasets for forecaster tools, web pages, and forecasting platforms.
  • Use AI-driven data pipelines to automate the ingestion and preprocessing of large meteorological datasets.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
