Director of Operations – Hybrid

Description

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board, and staff to develop and execute the Strategic Plan
  • Create operational strategies that support WVLT’s mission and objectives
  • Improve internal processes and systems
  • Manage the administrative team
  • Maintain legal, regulatory, grant, and national accreditation compliance
  • Prepare and review partnership agreements, contracts, and related legal documents
  • Direct risk management and maintain adequate insurance coverage
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and Strategic Plan-aligned work plans
  • Administer financial policies and processes, including financial reviews, invoice approvals, and budget tracking
  • Support the transition of accounting software systems and procedures
  • Deliver timely financial reports to the Board and staff
  • Maintain contract management and reporting systems
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to organizational leadership and the Board
  • Serve as staff lead for the Board’s Finance and Investment Committee
  • Coordinate internal and external finance and accounting resources
  • Create, revise, and implement HR policies and procedures
  • Oversee employee benefits and compensation standards
  • Establish and manage a performance management program
  • Lead capacity assessments, recruitment, and employee onboarding
  • Coordinate training and professional development
  • Drive organizational culture initiatives
  • Create and execute IT strategies
  • Manage IT vendors, licenses, and services
  • Maintain data security
  • Oversee core software systems, including AI-assisted meeting note-taking tools
  • Track Board and committee meetings, grant deadlines, grant reporting, and government and regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate onboarding for new Board members
  • Oversee preparation of Board meeting information packets
  • Attend Board meetings, present financial reports, answer questions, and follow up on decisions
  • Ensure Board decisions are implemented

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • At least five years of operations management experience
  • Strong leadership, team management, and collaborative participation skills
  • Collaborative and focused on achieving results
  • Proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and accounting software such as QuickBooks
  • Experience developing and executing strategic plans
  • Knowledge of HR practices and employment law
  • Experience overseeing IT systems and continuously monitoring IT security
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to travel to WVLT preserves, offices, Board meetings, and related events
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Nonprofit experience, particularly in land conservation, preferred
  • Familiarity with West Virginia’s conservation landscape preferred
  • Nonprofit fundraising experience preferred
