ADA Compliance Administrator - Birmingham, Alabama

Lead the City of Birmingham’s ADA compliance program, including accessibility policies, accommodation requests, training, facility reviews, and staff supervision.

Description

  • Lead the City's ADA program and compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Administer accommodation requests and investigate ADA-related complaints from citizens and employees
  • Investigate cases, document actions, coordinate workplace accommodations with managers and department heads, and connect people with disabilities to relevant resources and services
  • Create and deliver internal and external ADA training programs, workshops, resources, and materials
  • Research training topics, prepare presentations and instructional materials, and explain updates to policies and procedures
  • Establish and maintain an ongoing ADA self-evaluation process covering City policies, services, and practices
  • Assess public services, facility design and alterations, transportation, and employment practices for disability-access deficiencies
  • Collaborate with City and community stakeholders through outreach, committees, and organizations serving people with disabilities
  • Review proposed construction and modifications to City buildings, event venues, and public rights-of-way, and recommend ADA compliance improvements
  • Supervise assigned personnel by distributing work, directing responsibilities, tracking progress, and providing feedback or training

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, building sciences, public administration, planning, management, public policy, law, or a related field
  • Experience administering compliance programs focused on accessibility policies or policy changes under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act or other federal regulations
  • Experience developing and implementing construction designs and practices for municipal government facilities and infrastructure
  • Experience analyzing construction design documents for facility and infrastructure improvements, identifying potential deficiencies, and recommending solutions
  • Ability to perform primarily sedentary work with extended periods of sitting and occasional walking or standing
  • Ability to occasionally lift items or objects weighing up to 25 pounds
