Senior GCP Data Architect - United States Remote

Senior Data Architect role focused on secure GCP data lakes, warehouses, and streaming platforms. Support AI/ML, governance, compliance, and analytics for U.S. federal missions.

Description

  • Shape target-state GCP architectures for data lakes, lakehouses, warehouses, and streaming platforms
  • Set standards for data zones, ingestion, ELT/ETL, and data consumption
  • Design BigQuery, GCS, Dataproc, and Dataflow environments for scalable analytics and AI workloads
  • Create canonical data models and improve BigQuery performance through optimization techniques
  • Apply IAM, CMEK, VPC Service Controls, encryption, DLP, private networking, governance, metadata, lineage, and data-quality controls
  • Maintain compliance with NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, HIPAA, PCI, and SOC 2 requirements
  • Design batch and streaming pipelines with Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and Composer
  • Connect event-driven architectures through Cloud Functions and Cloud Run
  • Collaborate with Data Science teams on Vertex AI pipelines, feature stores, and MLOps
  • Improve BigQuery and GCS performance, storage, monitoring, logging, KPIs, and costs
  • Set standards for coding, Terraform/IaC, CI/CD, and DevSecOps practices
  • Maintain architecture documentation, lead reviews, and mentor technical teams
  • Enable governed self-service analytics through semantic layers such as Looker
  • Maintain architecture blueprints and reusable reference implementations
  • Establish standards for ingestion, schema evolution, and data retention
  • Review data models, pipelines, infrastructure code, and security designs
  • Lead proofs of concept, benchmarking, cost analysis, and technical documentation

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data or Information Systems, or a related field
  • 8–12+ years of data engineering or architecture experience, including 3–5+ years designing cloud data platforms, preferably on GCP
  • Background designing enterprise data lakes, warehouses, and streaming architectures
  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery, GCS, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Composer
  • Strong knowledge of IAM, CMEK, VPC Service Controls, encryption, DLP, and governance or lineage tools
  • Experience with FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, HIPAA, PCI, or comparable regulatory frameworks
  • Leadership experience across cross-functional technical initiatives
  • Strong command of ELT/ETL, streaming patterns, schema evolution, CDC, and data modeling
  • Experience with Terraform, CI/CD, Airflow or Composer, automated testing, and Git workflows
  • Track record of optimizing BigQuery and GCS for performance and cost
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Preferred qualifications include GCP certifications; federal or regulated-industry experience; Kubernetes or OpenShift certifications; service mesh, API gateway, multi-cluster, GitOps, SRE, incident response, RCA, Databricks, AWS or Azure equivalents, Vertex AI, feature stores, model registries, MLOps, governance and metadata frameworks, data mesh, and third-party tools
