Product Design Manager — Germany Remote
Lead n8n’s Product Design team as it shapes an AI-powered workflow automation platform. Raise design quality, develop designers, and influence product direction within a remote-first European organization.
Description
- Lead and grow n8n’s Product Design team
- Manage product designers, design engineers, and user researchers at varying levels of seniority
- Hold regular one-to-ones and provide ongoing coaching
- Lead evidence-based performance reviews and deliver candid feedback
- Own and advance the career progression framework for Product Design
- Recruit outstanding designers while expanding the team’s range of backgrounds and perspectives
- Establish and uphold standards for problem framing, user research, interaction design, information architecture, and visual execution
- Run design critiques and reviews that strengthen the quality of the work
- Help designers build sound judgment and greater autonomy
- Maintain an end-to-end view of the product experience and resolve fragmented UX
- Work with Product and Engineering leaders to define problems and shape product direction
- Strengthen processes for critique, collaboration, decision-making, and sharing knowledge
- Report to the VP of Product until the Head of Design joins
- Take on occasional exploratory or gap-filling design assignments outside product squads
- Support hiring through candidate presentations, live critiques, coaching, and reference checks
Requirements
- At least three years of experience managing product designers in a product-led technology company
- Experience managing a team of five or more
- Demonstrated ability to run one-to-ones and evidence-based performance reviews, handle difficult feedback, and manage performance
- Experience creating or improving a designer career progression framework
- Background in coaching and mentoring designers and facilitating effective critiques
- Strong design craft, taste, and professional judgment
- Experience hiring designers
- Hands-on experience with AI tools and a well-informed view of AI-enabled products
- Preferred: experience with B2B SaaS, developer tools, workflow automation, or comparable technical products
- Preferred: curiosity about APIs, webhooks, data structures, and workflow execution
- Preferred: experience designing products for developers or technical operators
- Preferred: systems thinking, influencing without formal authority, scaling teams, distributed work, open source, and inclusive hiring
- English is the company’s working language
