Head of Technology, Systems and Engineering — Johnson & Johnson (Hybrid)

Lead technology strategy for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine R&D platforms spanning data, AI, cloud, and engineering. Modernize global R&D technology with a focus on security, reliability, and operational excellence.

Description

  • Set technology strategy and product roadmaps for R&D finance, planning, resource management, investment, forecasting, and performance platforms
  • Direct shared data, AI, analytics, and compute platforms supporting cross-R&D initiatives
  • Build AI-ready data foundations, compute environments, model-development workflows, and governed data access
  • Oversee reliability, observability, resilience, performance, operational excellence, and service management across cross-R&D platforms
  • Advance software and cloud optimization through SDLC automation, DevSecOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, test automation, and release management
  • Embed security, risk remediation, infrastructure dependencies, identity and access patterns, resilience, compliance, and privacy into technology delivery
  • Establish and apply enterprise tools, engineering standards, architecture patterns, operational controls, and governance practices
  • Manage the cross-R&D product portfolio, including strategy, roadmap priorities, funding alignment, delivery governance, and stakeholder engagement
  • Lead and develop a large global team of technology executives, product managers, engineers, and operations specialists
  • Direct application and technology lifecycle management, including rationalization, upgrades, modernization, retirement, vendor transitions, and technical debt reduction
  • Collaborate with R&D product lines, Technology Services, Information Security and Risk Management, Finance, Data Science, Engineering, Architecture, and business leaders
  • Improve productivity, delivery speed, AI readiness, security integration, technical debt reduction, and value realization across R&D technology

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related discipline is preferred
  • At least 15 years of progressive experience in technology leadership
  • Background managing enterprise platforms, operations, product portfolios, or technology transformation
  • Experience in life sciences, healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or another highly regulated global sector is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms, data and AI platforms, application portfolio management, software engineering, technology operations, and cybersecurity integration
  • Experience leading large, globally distributed, matrixed organizations
  • Ability to set enterprise direction, develop diverse talent, and maintain accountability and performance at scale
  • Strong financial management and portfolio oversight skills
  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management abilities
  • Experience with Agile and product-led delivery, DevSecOps, FinOps, ALM/TLM, and architecture governance is strongly preferred
  • Thorough understanding of pharmaceutical R&D operating models
  • Experience leading large-scale platforms and products across finance and planning, data, AI, compute, engineering enablement, cloud, enterprise tools, or technology operations
  • Background operating critical technology services with strong reliability, service management, operational performance, and risk controls
  • Experience partnering across enterprise technology, security, infrastructure, architecture, finance, procurement, data, quality, and business functions
  • Demonstrated success improving software engineering, SDLC automation, DevSecOps, cloud efficiency, platform modernization, and application lifecycle management
  • Ability to create roadmaps and business cases, secure funding, measure value realization, and prioritize investments
  • Experience overseeing vendor ecosystems, technology dependencies, and multi-year modernization programs
  • Strong executive communication and influencing capabilities
  • Experience guiding organizations through complexity and change across regions, cultures, and functions
