General Counsel, Fashion and Apparel

Description

  • Act as chief legal officer for the organization's portfolio of brands, overseeing its legal affairs
  • Manage trademarks and intellectual property across the company's multiple brands
  • Draft, review, and negotiate wholesale, retail, licensing, vendor, and e-commerce agreements
  • Direct legal due diligence and integration work for brand and asset acquisitions
  • Handle employment law matters and collaborate with HR on compliance, policies, and employee relations
  • Oversee compliance with product safety, advertising, data privacy, and consumer protection requirements affecting apparel and retail
  • Lead litigation and dispute management while coordinating outside counsel and controlling legal risk and costs
  • Counsel executive leadership and the board on legal exposure, corporate governance, and strategic transactions
  • Develop the legal function, including hiring and supervising internal counsel or paralegal support as needed
  • Work with Finance, Operations, and brand teams to incorporate legal risk management into daily decisions

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree and active bar admission; California bar membership is strongly preferred
  • At least 10 years of legal experience, including in-house work in fashion, apparel, retail, or consumer brands
  • Substantial experience managing intellectual property and trademarks across multiple brands
  • Experience conducting M&A due diligence and supporting integration, preferably for brand or asset acquisitions
  • Experience negotiating wholesale, retail, licensing, and e-commerce contracts
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and experience working with HR
  • Ability to operate as a hands-on legal practitioner and strategic adviser to executive leadership
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and communication skills
