Field Service Technician (Up to 60% Travel)

Repair and maintain Wood-Mizer sawmill and wood-processing equipment at customer sites and in the shop. Travel to customer locations, complete service work, and train customers in safe equipment operation.

Description

  • Travel to customer sites to diagnose, repair, and maintain Wood-Mizer sawmill and wood-processing equipment
  • Service mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems
  • Perform branch-based shop service, repairs, and equipment setup
  • Independently troubleshoot complex issues and determine efficient repair solutions
  • Install and commission equipment
  • Train customers in safe operation and routine maintenance
  • Complete product updates, retrofits, and warranty repairs
  • Safely operate company service and delivery vehicles in compliance with DOT regulations
  • Accurately record service work, parts used, and time worked
  • Report customer feedback and recurring product issues to service, quality, and engineering teams
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less-experienced technicians
  • Deliver equipment and assist with trade show demonstrations as needed
  • Comply with Wood-Mizer safety, quality, and company policies and procedures
  • Carry out other assigned duties

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least four years of hands-on experience servicing and repairing industrial, agricultural, forestry, or heavy equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, read schematics, and use meters and controls
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing gas and/or diesel engines
  • Ability to work independently and manage a personal field schedule
  • Strong customer service and communication abilities
  • Basic computer skills for completing service documentation
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • DOT medical card, or ability to obtain one before starting; non-CDL
  • Willingness to travel up to 60%, including overnight trips and some weekends
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to frequently stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in awkward positions for extended periods
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to travel by vehicle and occasionally by air for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather and in shop environments involving noise, dust, and moving machinery
  • Required personal protective equipment includes safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection
  • Trade school certificate in diesel or engine repair, hydraulics, or a related mechanical field preferred
  • Employment may depend on a background check and drug test where permitted by applicable law
