Data Engineer, Legacy Systems and AI Workflows at Groundswell (Remote, U.S.)

Build secure ETL/ELT pipelines and AI workflows for Groundswell, a federal technology integrator. The role focuses on data quality, governance, security, and dependable mission-oriented applications.

Description

  • Build and operate batch and streaming ETL/ELT pipelines that move structured and semi-structured data into secure cloud platforms.
  • Integrate legacy data sources by assessing schemas, mappings, interfaces, validation rules, ownership, and operational support procedures.
  • Implement automated checks for data completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and referential integrity, supported by monitoring and alerts.
  • Automate deployments and pipeline operations through SOAP APIs, workflow orchestration, and environment-specific configuration.
  • Diagnose distributed-system failures using logs, metrics, lineage, and operational signals, then communicate causes and recovery plans.
  • Work with engineering, cloud, data science, security, architecture, and customer teams to turn mission needs into measurable data products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least five years of professional data engineering experience, including production pipeline development and operations.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, R, or another programming language used in data engineering.
  • Experience working with legacy systems that use SOAP APIs for data exchange.
  • Experience implementing data-quality frameworks, validation processes, monitoring, and alerting for production pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of data security, access controls, encryption, auditability, and governance in regulated, restricted, or compliance-focused environments.
  • Experience with SOAP or REST APIs and structured formats including JSON, XML, CSV, and Parquet.
  • Ability to document technical decisions and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and customer stakeholders.
  • U.S. citizenship required under contract terms.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance as required by the contract.
  • Preferred experience creating preprocessing, chunking, filtering, metadata-enrichment, or evaluation pipelines for LLM and other AI/ML workflows.
  • Preferred experience operating data platforms with segmented networks, limited connectivity, strict change control, or formal authorization requirements.
  • Preferred advanced SQL skills covering query optimization, data modeling, joins, window functions, and large-dataset analysis.
  • Preferred experience using Jupyter Notebook or comparable data-analysis tools.
  • Preferred experience with Python libraries including NumPy and pandas.
  • Preferred hands-on experience with a major cloud provider; AWS is strongly preferred.
  • C3.ai experience preferred.
  • An active Public Trust Clearance is preferred.
  • Preference is given to candidates located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
  • AWS Data Engineer, Databricks, cloud data engineering, or another relevant professional certification preferred.
