Description

  • Design and deliver complex AI cloud software solutions across greenfield and brownfield environments
  • Write high-quality code and support product codebases throughout their lifecycle
  • Advise on software development and ongoing maintenance
  • Support go-live activities and maintain complex software developments
  • Complete analysis, design, development, prototyping, unit testing, and maintenance work
  • Assess technical requirements for project evaluation and solution proposals
  • Follow approved software development methodologies and standards
  • Investigate and resolve complex information and communications technology issues
  • Assess, communicate, monitor, and manage project and technical risks
  • Create team plans and define team objectives
  • Draft reports and corporate documentation
  • Coordinate and prioritise personal and team workloads to meet business goals
  • Deliver projects within the designated area of responsibility
  • Conduct cost analysis when required
  • Work with Data Scientists, Architecture, Cyber Security, and Core Data teams
  • Build foundational platform capabilities and frameworks while applying governance, networking, and resource-management best practices
  • Work independently with substantial autonomy while maintaining stakeholder relationships and following agency procedures
  • Promote innovation, lead change, and support the agency’s strategic direction
  • Present findings and influence decisions across relevant forums

Requirements

  • Hold an active Baseline security clearance
  • Bring at least five years of hands-on AI engineering experience
  • Have designed, implemented, and operated greenfield and brownfield AI/ML environments across on-premises, public-cloud, and hybrid platforms
  • Demonstrate Kubernetes experience covering namespaces, RBAC, operators, CRDs, deployments, services, ingress or routes, secrets, config maps, workbenches, custom images, AI Pipelines or Kubeflow, model registries and catalogues, model serving, distributed workloads, and monitoring
  • Bring container and platform-engineering experience with Docker or Podman, image creation, registries, image scanning, vulnerability management, container security, and secure software supply-chain practices
  • Have experience administering Linux, networking, and storage, including DNS, TLS, proxies, load balancing, ingress, firewall concepts, certificates, scripting, and on-premises/cloud connectivity
  • Have worked with DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code using Git, GitLab, GitHub, or Azure DevOps; Tekton; GitOps or Argo CD; Terraform and/or Ansible; and automated build, test, and deployment pipelines
  • Use Python and scripting for automation, AI/ML integration, APIs, platform tooling, and operational support
  • Demonstrate AI/ML engineering and MLOps experience across model lifecycle management, training, inference, evaluation, registration, deployment, monitoring, optimisation, and automated build-and-release processes
  • Have experience with LLM and generative AI tools such as vLLM or TGI, Hugging Face, LLM APIs, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, prompt and evaluation tools, AI agents, and foundation models
  • Understand APIs and enterprise integration, including REST, authentication, OAuth/OIDC, API gateways, service-to-service integration, streaming platforms, data lakes, and feature stores
  • Have practical experience with AWS or Azure, preferably both, including exposure to SageMaker or Azure AI/ML
  • Have used object storage and data-management practices for pipelines, models, and datasets
  • Bring observability and operational-monitoring experience with AWS CloudWatch or Azure Application Insights, logs, metrics, tracing, and model or application monitoring
  • Understand security, governance, and compliance requirements including RBAC, secrets, certificates, network policies, vulnerability scanning, DevSecOps, data sovereignty, security classifications, privacy obligations, and Australian Government regulations
  • Apply FinOps practices covering cost transparency, usage optimisation, and financial governance for cloud and AI workloads
  • Apply architecture principles and enterprise technologies to turn complex technical requirements into scalable, sustainable, and supportable solutions
  • Clearly explain complex technical concepts, facilitate stakeholder discussions, and build consensus
  • Demonstrate SFIA Level 4 capability in methods and tools, programming and software development, release and deployment, and software configuration
  • Demonstrate SFIA Level 3 capability in software design and testing
  • Demonstrate SFIA Level 4 capability in systems design and systems integration and build
  • Desirable: SFIA Level 3 application-support capability
  • Provide an updated CV no longer than three to five pages
  • Submit responses to essential and desirable criteria of no more than 5000 characters per response
