Machine Learning Engineer, Computer Vision and VLM – Germany Remote

Develop and bring computer vision and visual language model capabilities into production. Build visual data pipelines for defense, public safety, and intelligence applications.

Description

  • Develop, train, assess, and refine computer vision and visual language models
  • Apply machine learning to object recognition, detection, classification, and identification
  • Create pipelines, scrapers, and workflows for large-scale visual and geospatial data
  • Evaluate leading open-source and state-of-the-art models, converting effective approaches into dependable systems
  • Analyze satellite imagery, geospatial information, sensor data, and other visual intelligence sources
  • Lead experimental initiatives and investigate emerging technologies and approaches
  • Partner with engineers and technical leaders on priority projects
  • Travel every 2–4 weeks for architecture reviews and team events
  • Bring computer vision and visual language capabilities into production for intelligence and public safety work
  • Train, assess, refine, and optimize AI models for practical applications
  • Work across object recognition, image and document understanding, geospatial data, satellite imagery, and extensive visual datasets
  • Turn data pipelines and experiments into practical engineering systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline, with excellent grades from a leading university
  • Strong academic performance paired with excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Advanced programming skills and experience building or refining AI and machine learning models
  • Practical experience in computer vision, visual language models, image understanding, or related machine learning applications
  • Strong interest in data, analytics, and data pipeline development
  • Ability and drive to learn unfamiliar technologies and domains quickly
  • Self-directed, hands-on working style with comfort operating independently
  • Collaborative approach with clear and candid communication
  • Excellent German language proficiency
  • Authorization to work full-time in Germany
  • Willingness to complete required security clearance and background checks
  • Experience with georeferencing, satellite imagery, remote sensing, OpenStreetMap, or photogrammetry
  • Experience building large-scale data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or machine learning deployments
  • Experience working with sensors, including drones, antennas, or cameras
  • Computer vision research experience, such as work at Fraunhofer IGD or a comparable institution
  • Knowledge of Russian or Ukrainian
  • Interest in or experience with military, intelligence, defense, or public safety domains
