Field Operations Engineer – Maidstone Hybrid

Join Wifinity as a Field Operations Engineer supporting broadband network commissioning and maintenance around Maidstone. The role covers wireless, fibre, switching, and customer-site infrastructure across Kent and the wider UK.

Description

  • Support Wifinity customer sites within an approximately 50-mile radius of Maidstone
  • Resolve onsite network and client-device faults across technical and physical systems
  • Work with Customer Service, Technical Support, and Installation teams to diagnose issues, restore service, and activate sites
  • Analyse network performance, prepare reports, and respond to monitoring alerts
  • Complete planned maintenance and attend live field break-fix incidents
  • Conduct wireless surveys, optimise Wi-Fi, and help maintain installation standards
  • Deliver infrastructure installation services covering cabling, fibre, cabinets, and switches
  • Commission remote sites onto the Wifinity core network, including circuits, radio links, fibre distribution, access points, and switches
  • Inspect installation quality and accept completed work during handover from installation teams
  • Develop and carry out tests for cabling, fibre, wireless coverage, and network products
  • Investigate and repair faults while coordinating with managers and relevant stakeholders
  • Record network changes accurately and add new hardware and services to monitoring platforms
  • Maintain workflow reporting processes and provide technical assistance
  • Promote safe working practices and comply with Health & Safety requirements
  • Train and assist Field Engineering colleagues as needed
  • Onboard devices, configure device groups, networks, and zones, synchronise devices, and update port settings
  • Apply switch firmware upgrades locally and through remote protocols
  • Check router firmware, DHCP leases, ARP records, IP neighbours, IP pools, VLANs, and bridges
  • Perform diagnostics including ping tests and IP scans, and configure DHCP options

Requirements

  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Bring prior experience as a field engineer or field network engineer
  • Be prepared to travel and stay overnight across the UK when business requirements dictate
  • Take part in an on-call rota
  • Demonstrate strong written, verbal, and ICT skills, with accurate systems and reporting practices
  • Have experience in client-facing work and a proven customer-service record
  • Work flexibly as part of a team while managing independent deadlines
  • Use NetBox to find site and device details and identify services deployed at each location
  • Have experience with Ruckus, Cambium, and MikroTik equipment
  • Configure switches through the CLI, including switch stacks, tagged VLANs, PVIDs, and MAC/LLDP tables
  • Use cnMaestro to assign switches to groups, adjust port settings, and review uptime and resource health
  • Create WLAN and AP groups, configure registration rules, and move APs between network-controller zones
  • Use Fluke, OTDR, Ekahau, and Wi-Fi analysis testing equipment proficiently
  • Have experience with fibre splicing, internal and external cabling, radio-link installation, duct rodding, and telephony cabling
  • Understand 3G, 4G, 5G, GPON, ADSL, VDSL, and PPPoE technologies
  • Understand Wifinity services such as Home Networking, the Onboarding journey, and hotspot
  • Capture and analyse packets using Wireshark and MikroTik
  • Access and troubleshoot systems through virtual machines, including Ubuntu
  • Have experience building Supermicro servers, loading ESXi, installing MikroTik cloud-hosted router images, and configuring virtual-machine settings
  • Possess CCNA-level networking knowledge and successfully complete a basic DBS check
  • Possess CCNA-level networking knowledge and successfully complete a basic DBS check
