Director of Software Engineering, Platform Services (Southfield Hybrid)

Lead Credit Acceptance’s Platform Services organization, advancing developer platforms, AI-assisted development, and shared engineering services. Modernize engineering infrastructure while building teams and improving secure, reliable software delivery.

Description

  • Set strategy and manage the Platform Services organization day to day
  • Lead the development, enhancement, and support of integrated services for engineering teams
  • Define the company’s model for AI-assisted and specification-driven development, including coding assistants, agent frameworks, standards, and safety controls
  • Provide golden-path templates, scaffolds, and reference implementations for new engineering initiatives
  • Own development environments and inner-loop tooling, including build and test performance and environment provisioning
  • Manage availability, performance, support models, service-level objectives, and on-call coverage for shared services
  • Shape the Platform Services experience to promote secure, reliable, efficient developer delivery and adoption
  • Collaborate with delivery pipeline, cloud infrastructure, and runtime platform teams
  • Define and report measures for engineering productivity, platform adoption, service performance, and project progress
  • Align platform strategy with business goals, priorities, and budget while assessing build, buy, and open-source alternatives
  • Ensure tooling and shared services satisfy security, privacy, audit, and corporate standards
  • Support growth initiatives by connecting the technology vision to business strategy
  • Build and lead diverse engineering teams while recruiting and developing engineering leaders and high-performing talent
  • Set team direction, anticipate strategic and scaling needs, and guide organizational change
  • Translate platform strategy into technical building blocks and mentor the resulting technical work
  • Provide ongoing feedback, address performance concerns, and recognize team contributions
  • Foster a results-focused culture centered on execution, quality, speed, and strong service
  • Work from home with occasional planned travel to the assigned Southfield, Michigan office; work from that office when requested by the team member
  • Handle other assigned responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or an engineering or technical discipline; MBA preferred
  • Required degrees must come from institutions accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or an equivalent body
  • At least 10 years in highly technical development or enterprise-services roles at large organizations or innovative startups
  • At least 5 years supervising, consulting, or leading teams, with experience managing multiple teams
  • Demonstrated success delivering internal developer tooling, developer platforms, or shared engineering services adopted by other engineering teams
  • Experience scaling AI-assisted software development, including coding assistants, agentic workflows, evaluation, and safeguards for releasing generated code
  • Experience owning production services, including service-level objectives, on-call rotations, and incident response
  • Proven ability to unify duplicated capabilities into a supported platform, including migration and decommissioning
  • Ability to communicate effectively with C-level executives and explain complex topics across the organization
  • Familiarity with agent development frameworks, model access layers, or comparable AI platform capabilities
  • Experience in a regulated industry or in close partnership with security, audit, and compliance teams
  • Working knowledge of financial services, loan origination systems, web applications, and the automotive industry
  • Working knowledge of modern developer tooling, including source control, code review, continuous integration, containers, infrastructure as code, and developer portals or service catalogs
  • Strategic thinker who can connect technical initiatives to business goals and develop technical strategies and roadmaps
  • Experience expanding teams and cultivating a collaborative, ambitious, outcome-oriented culture
  • Ability to identify and improve unclear or missing processes
  • Record of data-informed decisions and delivery against a strong technical vision
  • Automation-oriented approach to reducing manual work
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to advance ideas and initiatives
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Attend as required by the department
