Clinical Research Project Manager – Madrid, Spain

Lead clinical research project teams at IQVIA in Madrid, coordinating delivery across timelines, budgets, risk, compliance, and team development. The role combines operational oversight with people leadership, performance management, and continuous improvement.

Description

  • Manage and develop Clinical Project Coordinators, Project Management Associates, and project support staff.
  • Direct risk mitigation, cost control, and schedule management across clinical research projects.
  • Deliver high-quality project outputs on schedule, within budget, and in line with sponsor expectations.
  • Ensure teams follow applicable standard operating procedures, policies, and working practices.
  • Hold regular discussions with team members about project activities, responsibilities, and milestones.
  • Monitor adherence to standard processes, procedures, and project timeline measures.
  • Define performance expectations for direct reports.
  • Train and onboard Project Management Analysts, ensuring required training is completed promptly.
  • Complete and review PMA competency frameworks with direct reports.
  • Monitor project dashboards and address gaps in system use and metric compliance.
  • Review performance data and maintain accurate, timely IQVIA system updates for senior management reporting.
  • Manage employee resource allocation, including backfill planning and utilization.
  • Prepare status reports, tracking updates, monthly project reviews, presentations, and meeting materials.
  • Ensure direct reports process and approve invoices accurately and on schedule.
  • Promote staff development through professional growth support, mentoring, and guidance.
  • Set objectives that strengthen project management knowledge and capabilities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and collaborate with functional teams on process enhancements.
  • Prepare and present team updates in meetings.
  • Support departmental resource planning.
  • Take part in functional and corporate initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline, plus clinical research project management experience; equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • At least five years of clinical research experience, including three or more years leading, managing, and developing people or teams.
  • Strong command of management fundamentals such as resource planning, prioritization, coaching, performance management, and process execution.
  • Track record of leading, mentoring, and developing effective teams while addressing performance issues and maintaining engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the confidence to influence stakeholders and build relationships at every level.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, influencing, and negotiation capabilities.
  • Ability to achieve project outcomes while maintaining quality standards and meeting delivery timelines.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to build productive relationships with colleagues, managers, clients, and cross-functional partners.
  • Experience working across international environments, supported by strong cultural awareness and cross-geography collaboration skills.
  • Customer-oriented approach focused on high-quality service and constructive stakeholder relationships.
  • Working knowledge of clinical trial conduct and relevant regulatory requirements, including ICH-GCP and applicable local laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong general technology skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate IQVIA competencies in client focus, collaboration, communication, innovation, and ownership.
